Kicking off about a party's roots or who they've been associated with detracts massively from the fact that their policies are absolutely full of shit. There's a reason why Northern Ireland is decades behind in terms of progressive politics This may seem like an ignorant statement but this is why religion should stay out of politics. And yet our government will still happily hand over millions to the badgers for little inherent reason

You think it's hard to imagine who would vote for a party like the DUP but when you know how tribal Northern Ireland is, then it's not that hard to understand. Have never been anywhere else with more flags, you drive up through the middle and it's 5 minutes of all tricolours, painted green and GAA clubs, then it's painted red and blue, Union Jacks. I've seen way more Palestine and Israeli flags than actual Irish flags in the Republic.
When you mix in the hardcore propaganda on both sides, and being reared in that kind of area, the vote comes down to as simple as this for a lot of people - for Protestant - DUP if you don't want united Ireland, DUP if you don't want the party of the people who "terrorised" you. Even UUP is a 'wasted' vote. Same on the nationalist side really, SDLP did nothing so you just vote Sinn Fein for the best chance to beat DUP.
DUP tend to be incredibly arrogant and almost untouchable, with batshit crazy policies that in any other Western country wouldn't be tolerated. But more people want to stay in the UK + more Protestants = DUP vote. They could say "we will call to your house and shoot your dog" or "we will ban ice-cream" and they would still get the same number of seats in Northern Ireland. Quite depressing really.

I wonder if the DUP will now be part of the TV debates coming up to general elections? Never understood why they weren't when you had other parties with less seats taking part.

Find it quite coincidental that that the tories' private committee is called the 1922 Committee, considering that's the year NI joined the UK, despite the fact that nobody gave it its due attention until a week ago.

There's this homeless fella who sits in a doorway near my work, I buy him food every now and then when I see him there. Just walked past him there and he's crying his eyes out, I know it won't be election related of course but I feel sick seeing him like that. Proper hit home. Disgusting that people are even in that position in 2017 and he might have had a chance with Corbyn. Made my day that
