Not a good match to watch that looool
We're gonna have a tough season if we don't sign anybody, Conte is sending massive messages to the board that he's unhappy. Naming 17 players today in the squad, then putting Cahill and T-Bo as 1 and 2 in the shoot out. Almost certain this is his 'don't call my bluff, I really will walk' statement. I'd hope the board act now, and actually get going with bringing in a few more.
Lacazette looked good, unlucky not to score but he's driving at the back four and trying to get in behind with a better end product than Theo will do Arsenal well. Morata looked okay from what was scene, won some headers, drew a foul and made some good runs. His penalty was weak, but he's not the first striker to miss a pen and won't be the last.
Willian was poor today, and he's been on a bit of a decline since the second half of last season. It's worrying that without Hazard we don't look like a force, and we can't run the risk of being a one man team and expecting to win big this year given the added CL games.

I've just seen that they sold Ake for £20m. How the fuck have they done that? That's impressive.
But they've also spent £60m on Morata, £40m on Bakayoko and £30m on Rudiger. If that's 'signing nobody' then Spurs have had an even worse window than I thought.

Very enjoyable game eventually. Bored to death of STAAAAHND AAAHP IF YOU ATE TTOTTNUM but did chuckle when the entire ground sung it in unison.
We look exactly the same as previous years; good on the ball, lacking penetration at times, and horrendously easy to get in behind.
Kolasinic will be a cult hero, absolute tank. Xhaka was very good and is starting to look more and more assured in his midfield role. Iwobi had a blinder too, so confident on the ball.
Wasn't too impressed with Lacazette but then it's hard to gauge too much from where we were sat.
Penalty format was weird too, loads around us had to keep asking DOES THIS ONE MEAN WE WIN IT IF IT GOES IN, even the players didn't have a clue.

If that's 'signing nobody' then Spurs have had an even worse window than I thought. Yeah but two of those signings are one in and one out. In terms of depth we're lacking heavily. We have Kante, Bakayoko and Fabregas as cm options now Matic, RLC and Chabolah are gone, if any of Pedro/Willian/Hazard get injured then the back up is Musonda. We still have no back up for Alonso (although in reality any signing would probably go in ahead of him). We've bought three players yes, but look at the amount that have left the club.

Of all the things you could change about modern football, the fucking penalty format? Don't think we were gonna win a shootout anyway but what is the fucking point in that format
Shite game, thought we were comfortable in the second half after a poor first. Morata is more of a physical presence than I expected, not fussed on his penalty miss. I'd like to see him and Michy up front together though.
We're lacking in depth and that's down to poor management of our loans or just not trusting them. Can't personally understand selling Ake as he slotted in well last season. Letting Zouma go on loan is odd as well for our depth. Same with Loftus-Cheek. Same mistakes as a couple summers ago it looks like.

Real Madrid are, unsurprisingly, tearing the arse out of United.
And it's great because, for all the talent Pogba shows - and he's shown it here with some nice touches - no one would bat an eyelid at his price is he had anything resembling a good football brain.

Why does Benzema look like an entirely different person game to game?

There's a very distinct and somewhat unfair advantage in going first in a penalty shootout, it's a good way of countering that. Just like a tiebreak in tennis

I have to disagree. The pressures on the taker is entirely scenario dependent. First player scores, next player knows he has to score. First player misses, it takes some of the pressure off the second. The statistic shows more teams that go first win, but I honestly think that's coincidental. In all reality you should say 'every player should feel they have to score regardless' which takes order out of it, but the reality is if someone misses before you take yours, there is a touch of relief.
Fwiw I've always preferred going second in shoot outs, much prefer knowing what the target is in terms of equalise or go one up.

Matic was the best Utd player on the pitch. If he can regain 2014/15 form then it's one of the buys of the summer.
We need some wide options though... both at full back and winger positions. Someone who can provide width, stretch teams and put consistently good crosses into the penalty box... especially when our team is littered with tall players.

I'm not talking about feelings, there's genuine statistics over thousands of shootouts, how can you say that's coincidental? It's something daft like 60% of teams going first win which is ridiculous, puts way too much on a coin toss. Generally the pressure is always greater going second, after the first 3 you could quite easily be under massive pressure to score. Plus the team going first scores and then you miss, can quite easily be 2-0 out of nothing Just seems to be an innovation people don't know much about so just complain as it's new

Yeah I'm very much of the mind of why change it, no need, it's pointless, all situational etc..., but it was backed up with stats iirc.
The tennis tiebreak explanation has been a lifesaver explaining it to people this week, it's logical too.
