Let’s have a look at City as well because if people want to look at us as bottling it then they’re not giving City the credit they deserve.
New Years Day they’re 7 points behind. Win against Liverpool on the 3rd. 4 points behind. Win their next two. Lose to Newcastle. Win 14 in a row. Dropped three points in their last twenty games. Just unbelievable consistency, the kind of consistency we matched for the majority of the season giving us them the toughest title race they’ll likely ever get because they’re just gonna run away with it for the foreseeable future now.
In 2014 we won 11 in a row after new year and looked like doing exactly what City have done this year. Just got to accept that some teams just know how to get it done.

Seen loads of our fans saying they can’t laugh at us when they finished 31 points off us like I haven’t spent the last 7 years pissing myself at how they lost it in 2012 when they beat us by 37.

I can sympathise with Liverpool fans. I missed out on 2nd place in the FPL league with my mates which would've won me £100 by 6 points. So I get it, really I do

I’ve actually just seen a Spurs fan on twitter do a tweet about us bottling the league as if they didn’t pick up 23 points from their last 17 games and weren’t second on NYD. Bit of self awareness goes a long way there.
And I really cba with the idea of the Spurs ‘rivalry’ starting again it just doesn’t interest me at all the final in June is the first time in my memory we’ve been directly competing for the same trophy. City have been bad enough over the last year or so.

aye same. especially with my brother in law and nephew being liverpool fans, it just seems, to me, really contrived and hard work. especially because when it comes to being in madrid i'd just like to not have to worry about pool fans being fucked off with spurs fans (away games in merseyside are v hospitable). just want to drink and have a good time.
this season has made it fot me not hard to see why outside of london spurs fans are hated so much tbh. just a can of worms for the sake of it.

Bottled it with that 97 point total. Third highest in league history. Only runner up to reach 90. More points than every winner in football league history barring 2017/18 and 2018/19. Won 46 points out of a total of 57 in the second half of the season. Won 51 from the first 57. Fucking mad way to look at it. Break down our season however you want to. We didn’t bottle it. Mad one. I've sent you on a fucking stat search with that? Too easy.

Seems to be a lot of feelings over Chris Hughton getting sacked but I don’t really see how Brighton had much choice, they’ve looked awful in 2019.

Yeah it’s a weird one, you kind of feel sorry for him but at the same time it seems like they’re just waiting to go down. Probably the right thing to do.
I think there’s a very fine line between rewarding someone for getting you somewhere and risking everything you’ve earned. When we sacked Karanka it didn’t make any sense to me because we were already gone, might as well have stuck with him and let him try to get us back up. Brighton have a chance to build something and it seems like Hughton isn’t quite good enough for that.

I'd have thought the FA Cup run would have earned him some capital, at least another year. Hard job to keep them up both seasons, the size of the club imo. Wonder what their expectations are?

Should give some context here though, they’re not exactly these tiny underdogs who are completely hamstrung compared to others. They’ve spent around £120m in net spend in 2 seasons, he gets so little out of them as an attacking force, and they’ve collected 11 points in 2019. Get 30k fans every home game as well, they’re easily capable of being a midtable Premier League side. Can’t really say he’s done a bad job, but there’s nothing really to suggest they’re turning this around. Personally think it would be horrible management if they decided not to sack him just because he’s beaten West Brom, Derby and Millwall in the cup. Only so long you can get away with aiming for 17th every year, it’ll catch up with you pretty soon.

Haven’t they scored two or three from open play since February? Or something equally appalling anyway.
I think it makes a huge difference (whether it should or not is another question) when you collect points in terms of your standing at the end of the season, the fact Brighton have collapsed since Feb looks far worse than a big upturn in form, but regardless, I think it’s the right decision. You’ve stayed up and you can obviously stick with what you have and hope you can carry on, but with the poor football, results off a cliff, and a complete failure to integrate their signings on the attacking side, I think they’ve done the right thing
