Mahomes has to win MVP. It’s only the need for a 2 horse race that’s seriously fuelling anyone else, reminds me of Salah vs KDB last season. Good for the neutrals that no team bar the Saints is locked into a playoff place, so teams will be playing their starters next week. Looking at some of the games though I can’t see many of them playing long into the second half. Colts @ Titans flexed into Sunday night football next week already as well.
5 Chargers @ 4 Ravens 6 Colts/Titans @ 3 Texans
4, 5 or 6 @ 1 Chiefs 3, 4 or 5 @ 2 Patriots
5 Seahawks @ 4 Cowboys 6 Vikings/Eagles @ 3 Bears
4, 5 or 6 @ 1 Saints 3, 4 or 5 @ 2 Rams

Imagine Smith was still there and Mahomes was still backup that’s a 8/9 win team. The defense is complete shit, Mahomes is much better at using his receiver corps with his ability to throw deep and now has to contend with having no marquee standard running back. Kelce and Hill have never looked this good. As good a season Brees is having, he’s got a much better team around him, his defense hasn’t put so much pressure on him as Mahomes has.
If it was a best player award, it’d be Brees. But Mahomes is more valuable to me.

I see Most Valuable Player as best player more than valuable to their team, Most Valuable being who’s achieved the most, rather than valuable in context of their team. On that basis I’d say mahomes wins it sure, but as good as our team is I still think take Brees out and we’re dropping off significantly too. Compare Brees to Mahomes in the fourth quarter of close games, and that’s where he’s pure money and Mahomes is a step behind him. Almost every time there’s a game on the line with 2 mins to go and the ball in brees’ hands, i’m confident we’ll win it. Think last night made it 7 this season? Mahomes has two.
I wouldn’t be annoyed at all if Mahomes won it but I think the conversation is warranted.

Brees is an 18 year veteran and Mahomes is a second year player who has only just completed the equivalent to one season though. A lot of times this season the Chiefs have come out and just dominated offensively from the start so they haven’t relied on his brilliance in the 4th quarter.

Oh I know, and i’d have been blown away even more f he won them that game considering their D had the whole day off. But Brees did, and we’ve been blowing some teams away too.

The Chiefs scored more points against the Rams this season than the Saints did. He made a couple of errors in the game but without it him it wouldn’t even have been a contest. The Chiefs’ losses came against have the Pats, Rams and Seahawks on the road as well as the Chargers at Arrowhead. All of those are genuine Superbowl contenders imo. Mahomes is averaging 37.5 points, 4TDs and 336 yards in those games.

I don't want it to sound like I'm digging out Mahomes at all, he's been absolutely insane, but I watched that game and the Saints Rams game and I think there's a significant distance between Brees/Mahomes in them. Saints' drives were all significantly longer time of possession, less errors from Brees, almost insane accuracy throughout, Mahomes' interceptions and mistakes were a huge part of why the Chiefs lost that game. He was still fantastic for the most of it, but I do think it's a discussion at least like I say. If Mahomes wins it, it's totally deserved, but if Brees does, and obviously I hope he does, then I think it's equally deserved. Depends on how you slice stats but you can easily create an argument for either.
