Paul or anybody else And top tips for learning Spanish? I’m going to Argentina over Christmas and doubt their English will be up to much. I’m obviously not gonna be great in a few months, but any tips for learning as much to get by with would be appreciated.

If you’re only there for a bit then I’d just say get the basics. If you’re going to be asking for directions then understanding the differences is vital (left - a la izquierda, right - a la derecha, straight - derecho), inflection is key because there’s no clear indicator in Spanish to denote whether you’re asking a question or making a statement. They’re really just tips for once you’re there.
As for learning it, depends how long you’re there for and how much you think you’ll need it, you could probably get a tutor for a few sessions just to give you the basics. I know a lot Spanish students who go to uni in Liverpool and Manchester tend to come back and set up tutoring businesses. Other than that I’d just look online. Anything in particular you need to know just google it + ‘Spanish’. Sentence structure can be a pain in the arse but you could probably get used to that through googling it or by reading Spanish language articles (stick to something you’re familiar with so a football match review or something like that, means you won’t get lost in weird subject matter and can probably find words you’ll know because they’re similar to English).
I can help you out with most of what you’ll need but really I think the best route is a tutor because then it’d be speaking with someone and giving you an idea of not just being able to speak it but understand responses too, just dunno if you’re bothered enough to spend money.

Yeah, only going for two weeks. But speaking to a friend I think I’ll need to speak/understand as much as possible. Another mate was actually looking at getting a tutor, so we might split the cost on a 6 week course. Like most people I can speak a little bit of holiday Spanish, but would like to feel as comfortable and confident as I can. Always wanted to learn a language, knowing me I won’t follow through, but it’s as good an excuse as I’ll ever get, so will give it a go for now. Cheers.

Honestly setting aside an hour a day if you can you can become conversational and probably a bit better in 5 months. If I had to compare I’d say you could get to decent A level-standard proficiency at least in terms of reading and listening (Spanish language football podcasts might help as well).
This might sound really stupid as well but I’ve found myself having Spanish conversations with scousers loads down the years so I’ll say it anyway. If you and your mates are all learning, try and have the odd conversation in Spanish. First and foremost it helps you practice speaking but secondly there’s inevitably going to be one of you who picks things up quicker so they can correct any errors you make. It seems weird, especially when you know what you want to say in English but can’t translate it but I think it helps.

Thanks for the tips Paul. I’ve downloaded duolingo to get me started. Will probably batter than in work. I’m seeing me mate Sunday, so I’ll have a chat and see where we end up on the tuition front. Another mate just done a 12 week course in Italian and recommended the woman, so think I’ll go for it. Like I said, always wanted to give it a go and this is the perfect excuse.

Just spent 90 minutes sat next to Highbury Highs again by complete coincidence and he's now the person from neo I've spent the most time with irl.
Was only on the Gatorade though, it's a school night.

When you say he’s now the most, are you keeping some sort of tally chart?

I still remember sitting down on the train next to someone who was on here once and I’ve never figured out who it was.

This makes me look nosey but as I’ve been grabbing something out of my bag I’ve seen their phone screen and it was on either Neo or SNC. Think it was Neo come to think of it but whoever it was was looking at a thread I’d posted in as I’ve seen it cos I could see my old signature and everything. It was surreal.
