Not often it happens but our front three have let us down tonight. Ah well no big deal.

10 minute spell in the second half where the linesman on the far side gave Napoli everything just changed the whole tide of the game and it came to a head with that penalty.
Second half performance was unacceptable but expected it tbh, players look knackered and squad depth might start to rear its ugly head soon.

Turn it in Paul. First defeat in about 12 years that.
Battled really well against a good side who had clearly upped their levels - hence centre mids going down on 70 with cramp. We came out the other side of that the better team, creating chances and should have been in the lead before the penalty. Controlled the game for large spells and didn’t overly exert ourselves. Without that penalty I fancy us to go on and win it, they were struggling physically, but worst case 0-0. And that would have been great. Not sure what you wanted this early in the season?
No big deal though. Salzburg at home and then Genk home and away are 3 really nice fixtures for a CL group stage.

No I’m not even really faulting the team. Think we were the better team for most of the game and I even said at half time we played a lot better there than we did last season. My worry is more that when we have something like Firmino playing three games in a week with a transatlantic flight thrown in, it will come back against us at some point surely with how important he is to us. Robertson not being fully fit but having to play the 90 and a tired challenge being a big part of why we lost.
Still think we played well and a fair result was a draw but a few key moments there either didn’t go our way or one of the front three blew it up, we could’ve won.
‘Unacceptable’ is a bit of hyperbole I suppose, we’ve been so good in recent games that I just expect it and I’m hoping that Sunday is more a case of decent form rather than what we saw tonight, which I’m sure it will because there were a lot of factors to that game that made it difficult that won’t apply to Chelsea.

Following on the radio and they reckon it's stonewall. You can see why the ref has given it but when you see the replays it's quite clearly a dive. I think a draw would have been a fair result but never mind, we were poor in all of our away games last year and ended up winning the thing so not the end of the world.

A Harry Kane special. But I've sat and watched pundits tell me that's a stonewall penalty for the past 18 months when it's happened against us.

One of them where if the ref doesn't give it then VAR doesn't overturn it either. You win some, you lose some I guess.

I got a notification off ESPN this morning that said “Liverpool suffer shock defeat in Naples” I just shook my head. I proper hate footy now you know, or at least the hyperbole and hysteria around it.
Napoli are a fucking good side how is it a shock defeat? Dickheads.
“How will City recover from stunning Norwich defeat?”
They won’t, they’ll just crumble and get relegated. Facking shut up.

Curse of being so good for City and a Liverpool I guess. Nonsense response though.
Saw an article about City being “in a crisis of Pep’s own making” after the Laporte injury before the Norwich game and just got to laugh at it. Bury’s a Ducking crisis, not City ending on 85 points in 2nd.

It is relatively though. This is supposed to be the year City win it all and anything less than a treble, including league and Europe, is going to put his job in jeopardy, which for us mere mortals is ludicrous, but it’s the benchmark you set when you’ve been so good across your career.
Kompany left and he didn’t replace him and left himself only with Laporte, who is probably alongside Van Dijk and Koulibaly one of the 3 best centre halves in the world, but also Otamendi and Stones who have been error prone their entire careers in England. Once Laporte gets injured then that puts them into a crisis.
It’s all hyperbole because if Laporte misses 20 games, for example, you’d still be shocked if City didn’t win at least 18 of them and I still think that by the end ofFebruary they’ll be top of the league, in the quarter finals in Europe and probably with one trophy already in the bag. But their defence is definitely a worry and is one of the weakest in the top half of the league.

Top half of the league is a bit OTT.
They’re not amazing but most sides would have any of their defenders in the league.
