Honestly if they had that defence for an entire season they’d just be another top four team. They’ve invested heavily in that defence over the last two years because of how poorly it was doing beforehand, such as Pep’s first season at City where you could say the only real change further forward to the starting eleven has been Bernardo.
Walker has never been a great defender. He’s improved but I don’t trust him beyond his pace. Stones and Otamendi are weak and struggle positionally and lose focus way too easily and their left back is an attacking midfielder.
I’ll say top 6 then. Only Arsenal to me have a worse defence.

Is there a single other player for a top club that goes consistently missing as much as Christian fucking Eriksen

Reckon the GOAT conversation will be measured on how shit Barca go when Messi leaves because we’ve already seen what Real have become.

Saying anything less than a treble for Man City won’t do is patently ridiculous. For starters if they won the Champions League nothing else will matter. Secondly with how good Liverpool are now, if they win the Premier League and get to the semi-finals of the Champions League I seriously doubt there’d be major criticism. They haven’t even been terrible defensively this season, though obviously there’s Norwich, they only had 3 shots on target they were just very clinical, they didn’t create countless chances. Also Spurs had I think 3 shots that entire game? They didn’t even create one chance really it was a keeper mistake and a corner. Would think these things will balance themselves out after a while, wouldn’t read too much into it yet.

Also it’s seriously unreal how bad Real Madrid are. Toni Kroos has had a ridiculous decline these last couple of years it’s like he’s been cursed.

Bale's disallowed goal last night should be up for the puskas award
I would swap our entire team and stadium just to have his left peg back

That game against us does kind of prove a point about their defence, they dominated us but a goalkeepeer error (he's part of the back 5) and poor marking at a corner has undone all their controlling of the game and their attack was definitely let down by their defence on their day If you were to go back a few months earlier there's a far more glaring example of their defence, quarter final of CL against us trailing from the first leg, we're missing Kane, probably the biggest one off game City had all season (probably in numerous seasons considering how high they prioritise the CL). Sterling's tearing us apart, we can't get within 15 yards of de Bruyne all game, the whole game is City attack after City attack. Why didn't they get in the semi's?

Like I said, the expectations on City aren’t anything we can relate to. Maybe the Chelsea fans can from early Mourinho days but City are an anomaly in English football if not football as a whole for the unforeseen level of short term investment they’ve seen. Within ten years they’ve gone from mid table to having the best manager in the world, the best squad in the world and the highest expectations of anyone, especially since hiring Pep to do one thing, which he’s yet to deliver and which, on paper, they’ve gone backwards in pursuit of.
The way they play under Guardiola is unbelievable and they’ll never find a manager that gets them playing this well but he’s on an accelerated timeline because of the backing he’s been given and for the fact that he was brought in to bring them a european title. To us it’s ridiculous but it’s what the top clubs do now and they don’t settle for anything less than absolute domination. Look at Valverde at Barcelona as one example. Part of that pressure comes from the fans but his job is under constant scrutiny despite him walking the league back to back, winning at least one other trophy each year and getting as far, if not further, than Pep has in Europe with City.
And all I can see is that he’s failed to fix a glaring issue with his team. Like it might not get exposed very often but that’s a product of how much of a threat they are in attack but against teams who aren’t afraid to go at them it’ll show, and it’s a worry for them when teams like Norwich, as good as they’ve looked, aren’t afraid to go at the, and are winning games doing so.

Man City might have an issue defending set-pieces but aside from that I’m not sure how you can take too much from the season so far. Particularly the Spurs game, just checked the stats and Spurs had 0.07 xG, which is just ludicrously low, if you think there’s some massive issue based on that match you’re being very results orientated. Don’t think it’s very likely they’ll continue conceding goals due to individual errors at such a rate either.

The last thing I’ll say on this is that a Walker-Fernandinho-Otamendi-Zinchenko backline would scare the hell out of me if I were a City fan considering your best defender there is a midfielder and your worst defender is the other centre half.

Said it before, I’ll say it again. Why couldn’t Real collapse like this just a season earlier?
