Finally joined the COVID party. Early signs are this isn’t an asymptomatic one unfortunately

My mum and dad both got it while I was home for Christmas. Which makes me a bit jealous of the jammy fucks I work with who are unvaxd and get to isolate for 10 days in these circumstances.

Felt a bit rough Sunday morning getting ready to travel home but just attributed it to the combination of calling the linesman our side a dickhead and the ale but became clear Sunday night when I was back home that I was actually coming down with something. Took a test yesterday morning and had a faint line next to the T, asked my mum who’s a nurse to clarify whether that would be a positive or invalidated and she confirmed it as a positive. Took another the same day and had a similar result. Still managed to get through the day at work but nearly fell asleep at my laptop at one point
Had a job interview this morning and had to tell them that I’d requested a reschedule (which was denied) due to having Covid and that it had affected my preparation. Finished that, called into work and took another test which is now showing two very bold lines
The long and short of it is: I am never stepping foot in Paris ever again

Been taken aback a bit the last few days by how my mum has been with Covid. She tested positive on Sunday and is mostly asymptomatic. She’s a nurse so she spends most of her time around it so she’s aware of mitigating risks and the like
Yet has decided to completely ignore that this week. Previously it wouldn’t have bothered me as I was single so wasn’t spending much time in other people’s houses, but I’ve been spending time around my girlfriend’s family, of which her sister and mum are both immune suppressed and her grandma is in her mid-80s. Like my mum’s been walking round the house (with a mask on) but then touching surfaces or taking things out of cupboards then putting them back and I just can’t believe what I’m seeing. Bearing in mind I spent the first few months of the pandemic indoors to protect her as I was pretty much living at home full time then
I had a word with her before and called her selfish because she’s treating her lack of symptoms as if she’s not contagious and just moving freely about the house and it makes me so uncomfortable. I don’t worry about having it myself, I worry about getting it unknowingly and passing it on to her family. As well because she’s a nurse she gets access to free testing kits and I think she fails to recognise that that’s not available to everyone, including my girlfriend who’s now going to have to do daily tests
God forbid anything went wrong and something happened to her mum, sister or grandma because of this, just can’t fathom it

Yeah pandemic fatigue is real, or ignorance rather. Feels like a lot of people I work with have just forgotten about it completely and will sit hacking and coughing at their desk all day.
Feel as if there's been a collective blind eye turned to it and hopefully it really is starting to wane but my concern is that a lot of immunity is starting to lapse and people aren't taking simple measures.
Related, but the last few regular colds I've had have fully knocked me out for a week, so from a selfish POV I'd much rather people were being considerate and taking simple measures to look out for each other.
