If he's an integral part of the Euro squad that goes on to win it though? Has to be in with a shout. Whether he deserves it or not is a different question (and I'd lean towards agreeing with you #FreeBTS) but international tournaments tend to garner more weight. I hate how it’s became this thing for individual awards to be just someone from the team that wins though, so I don’t necessarily agree. Also they should be deservedly weighted towards attacking players, so a player like Kante winning it should be difficult. Like the Premier League this season, for me it’s ridiculous that Harry Kane isn’t just sweeping the awards, Dias has been really good but do people seriously think he’s had a better individual season than Kane?

Yes.
It's easier to see an attackers accomplishments. Doesn't mean they've been objectively better.

Días hasn’t been better than Kane this season. He’s been good but his impact on this City team is hugely overstated. They only conceded three fewer this season than they did last. I think he goes to ground way too easily to block shots and Trossard’s goal against them exposed that side of him. Also really poor last night and was at fault for the goal. Would they be worse without Dias? Possibly yeah. Is the greatest positive they’ve had from his signing so far the fact that they no longer need to use Fernandinho and Garcia at centre half? Yeah. It’s almost like we’ve had another case study this season from a top team who hindered themselves moving a sitting midfielder into defence.
Whereas with Kane you know his impact and what would happen to Spurs without his goals. He should’ve won player of the year fairly comfortably.

They only conceded 3 less this season because they conceded five against Leicester in a game he didn't play. He's clearly massively improved their backline and has made Stones look back to the player he could be with his leadership at the back. It takes a hell of a player to not only play well yourself but also improve those around you to the level at which he has. And there's at least 3 players more at fault for the goal yesterday.
Kane probably did deserve it, but he's suffering from the Messi/Ronaldo/Salah thing where exceptional is considered to be your average so unless you're breaking records no one really notices.

Dias completely changed City from their awful form at the start of the season. His impact for them was just as big as VVD for Liverpool.

It absolutely was not. I’ve seen so many people say that this season and it’s bonkers.
Van Dijk came into a team that had been consistently conceded 40-50 goals for the previous ten seasons and within his first half season helped us get to a European final, the next season was part of a duo that conceded 7 in the first 19 games and conceded 22 in total.
Dias helped a team that has won the league cup for 5 straight years win that again and a team which had won 2 of the previous 3 titles win another one. What an impact. Without Van Dijk, we don’t win a European cup or a title at any point in the last 3 years. We don’t even get to a final. Without Dias City win at least a title.

Without Dias they get nowhere near the league title this season. They get to their first ever Champions League final. Him and Stones went on a run of 16 clean sheets in 20 games.
Hows it that different? We’ll see if he helps to bring them a European trophy in the next couple of seasons.

Dias completely changed City from their awful form at the start of the season. His impact for them was just as big as VVD for Liverpool. This is mental lol. Injuries dependant I think there’s a definite argument Man City win the league playing Laporte and Stones. But anyway, as good as Dias has been I genuinely think it’s mental people claiming he had a similar impact to Kane. Like I said, the best team doesn’t necessarily have to have the best player. In fact I’d say it normally makes more sense for them not to have had the best player.

I’m not arguing against Kane being POTS lol
I just think people are massively understating Dias just cos he went to Man City.
Why is it so different to Liverpool spending £70m on VVD to join their backline that had already cost over £100m?

I think they do win the title this season because there was nobody else that has anywhere near City’s strength in depth so they were always going to piss through the winter.
I know it seems like I’m calling him shite here and I do think he’s gonna be the best centre half in the world in 3/4 years but he’s not that yet but he’s also really young. I just think likening the impact he’s had to a multiple title winning squad to somebody who came into a team that had scraped 4th the previous season and hadn’t put up a serious title challenge for 5 years is a bit much.

Why is it so different to Liverpool spending £70m on VVD to join their backline that had already cost over £100m? Our back line when Van Dijk joined was Alexander-Arnold, Lovren and Robertson with Mignolet behind. £40m at a push. Any back line that Van Dijk is a part of ordinarily, either with Gomez beside him or Matip, is still £150m total combined and that’s after us signing Alisson, who came in after Van Dijk.

Dias made a good team better, Kane was a good player in spite of the poor team around him
Fairest way of settling this is to give it to Gareth Bale

Ok, thought Alisson joined the same time but he was the summer after, soz.
So VVD helps you get to a Champions League final in his first season with you... exactly what Dias has done with City, after they looked an absolute shambles 2 months into the season. Who's to say that next season City don't concede under 25 goals in the league, win it and also win the Champions League final with Dias?
After one season at their clubs, they both had a massive impact in changing the fortunes around. Obviously VVD looks better at the moment, cos in the following 2 seasons you won the Champions League and the Premier League. In 2 years time, Dias could have the exact same impact on City. He's already had a similar impact at City in their first few months.

Yeah they might well do but I still disagree that’s a similar impact Stu. We were regularly conceding 2/3 goals in games. I think for Van Dijk’s first 2 years at the club we conceded twice in a game once or twice in the league. Obviously we also conceded 7 in a game that he played as well and he didn’t start the season well at all before the injury.
But I think taking a team that had been borderline for getting into Europe and turning them into a defensive juggernaut in the space of 12 months, before helping that team to two European finals, one of which was won and then a league title is more impressive than Dias coming into a City side which has already won everything other than the European cup. Ederson won the golden glove last season. They weren’t a bad defensive team. We were.
