What you think of Karanka going in the first place? If he'd been sacked at the end of the season for not delivering then I'd have accepted it, but we were 7th ffs. I think we've just coughed up our best chance of promotion this season.

I’m really not a fan of this appointment at all. Suggests we didn’t even seriously go after Jokanovic etc which is thoroughly disappointing too. Nostalgia does not end well.

We do have a habit of repeating the past even with completely new owners, players, and managers. It's our curse.
We aren't going up this season, so he'll be gone by June anyway.

Don't think so. Would have been interesting.
IMO it's been a bit overblown in the media. Every club does analysis and the sort of data the journos were seemingly surprised about is pretty common. The only extreme part was the sheer number of games covered but that just comes down to man hours. Most clubs will analyse data from the last 5-10 games but he did the last 40 or so.

Aye, apparently it's mostly all available on Wyscout or whatever that is.
I think it's partly his level of involvement in it (many managers leave it down to their scouts etc...), partly because it adds some substance to the stories people have already heard.

Yeah that sort of analysis goes on at most top clubs I imagine, just that the manager does not necessarily take part.

Yeah that sort of analysis goes on at most top clubs I imagine, just that the manager does not necessarily take part. Bielsa didn't do this analysis himself. They have a department to do that. It's then available for him and his coaching team to look through for answers to their questions. That's the same as any club. In fact at a lot of smaller clubs the manager would be more involved in analysis as he may have to chip in with the man hours to collate the information. I've watched his entire press conference (cheers @djed ) and it's not any more advanced than any other club - and that was kind of Bielsa's point. He continually says "every other coach knows this too". All the info they have is available on tools like Wyscout, InStat and Scout7 and they've collated some of it into spreadsheets to find trends like "% of the time they play 4-3-3" which in itself doesn't really tell you anything.

I found it interesting that he was saying "I don't need to do this" about the spying thing. And talking about the anxiety and that you "have to" do this to feel like you've covered all bases and done a professional job etc. It was interesting because other than maybe finding out who sat out training, what benefit is there in sending a fella to watch the sessions that you can't glean from analysing their matches like they already do?

You'd be able to pick out their starting 11 from the last training session. Sure they can probably guess it with a fair amount of accuracy but it just eliminates that last element of doubt. Marginal gains.
Possible set piece focus too.

Used to be able to work out our starting 11 from training pictures based on what colour bib or jacket they were wearing so turning up to spy on training would definitely give you an advantage there.

You can work out our starting XI by a cursory head count

Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Edman, Redknapp, Dembele, Eriksen, Tainio, Kanoute, Pavlyuchenko
I was gonna say Anderton and Bale but they’re injured more than the actual spurs squad.
