I'm going to sit firmly on the fence and say I'm not too sure whether this is a good or bad sacking. There is far more wrong with Spurs than AVB. Levy, who is seen as some kind of wizard done him no favours at all in the summer and how well do Baldini and AVB get on? Who does what?
Saying that, I'm not sure how much AVB learnt from his Chelsea mistakes. I think he is a good manager and will become a better one, but his insistence on playing a particular way when he doesn't have the players available has hindered him at Spurs. I personally would have given him time, I think it's proven to be a blessing to many clubs in the past who have backed their manager. Short term, I'm not sure how he was going to turn it around, but long term I think he would have achieved good things at Spurs.
He needs time away from the PL now anyway, I don't think he was ever given a fair trial in England; not being Mourinho or Redknapp in London is cardinal sin.
Hopefully Sheerwood is given a chance.
Edit: Sod it. Bad sacking.

We had a manager who wasn't working, we'd lost 6-0 and 5-0 to two teams we should be considering competitors and let in three at home to West Ham who are going down. We may have a good away record but we've had the likes of Palace, Cardiff & Swansea, any semi-difficult game we've had this year we've been ran off the pitch. I'm disappointed we sacked him but it's hardly unfair. FO we're knocking you out the cup in two days time!

All paving the way for Martin Jol's triumphant return to White Hart Lane. In all seriousness, still disappointed... Definitely wont happen. I'm sure he'd love the job but he knows the set up with us re: Sporting Directors and wouldnt have it at all. More likely WBA candidate for sure. Now, I'll be totally honest here, I'm actually shocked that AVB has gone. I really thought it was goning to be a case of "win the next three or you're out" (which it possibly was and he got upset and went down the "mutual termination" route) and we'd go from there but I suppose mutual consent costs less money than a proper sacking. Regarding my personal feelings towards the guy, it's not delight I feel about his departure, more relief. He never really seemed to grasp what to do in a bad situation to me. The term 'deer in the headlights' was used by... Alan Smith I think... just there on SSN and it's more than true of just yesterdays game. It's happened too many times before. The remarks yesterday about "not making public" and avoiding the direct question showed the strain he was under and how he was feeling the pressure and looking for an answer. The problem has been the sporting director in my eyes. Levy has not learned that they have only caused trouble for us in the past and we should not have one. However, and I bold it as this was my main source of frustation with AVB over the past few weeks, his comments after the run against Fulham and Sunderland were so fucking arrogant I wanted him gone. How he could say that there were people goading him and he'd answered his critics by beating two very poor sides unconvincingly truly pissed me off. He also went as far as to say that we have a chnce of being in the semi finals of the carling cup and that was a good thing was fucking insulting. Yeah, spending over £100m to reach the semi finals of the league cup is wonderful. Yeah, finishing top of a terrible group in the EL is wonderful. Anyway, fuck that it doesnt matter anymore he's gone. Not overly impressed by Capello's favouritism for the job but I suppose the Baldini factor means he's already our new manager. Would take Laudrup no problem, Hiddink is a massive yes, Klinsmann is the dream choice but that new contract with the USA and him having resided there for the past... what 15 years now? suggests we have no chance with him. Klopp would be awesome but we wont get him. Interesting week or two ahead I think.

Tottenham should be at the top of the table or thereabouts considering the squad they have, the two embarrassing results may have been overlooked if spurs hadnt been absolutely dismal against teams that they should be be beating comfortably. Where does AVB go from now? His reputation's taken a bit of a hammering

tbf this is all dependent on who we get in. If it's Capello (it won't be) or Hiddink (it won't be) or de Boer (it has the slightest, slimmest chance) then I'm for it. If it's a melt like Sherwood however I'll probably swear us off for the next lifetime to be fair sideways was never the most popular spurs player but he us very well regarded within the club and is being moulded into a future manager definitely Will probably be number two to whoever comes in, whoever it is I honestly cba to speculate just hope whoever comes in knows what he's doing Good luck to AVB aswell he will eventually find a club who will be willing to give him the time he needs and will eventually be one of the games top managers. Thanks for the memories, the win at Old Trafford especially one of the best days in my life football wise, for a successful season last season, for the largely entertaining football played and for signing some top players

Good post Gary but what you say about only managers liked in London being Mourinho and Redknapp is wrong. Redknapp is unpopular wherever he goes, he's easy to hate and it genuinely seems I'm the only person who actually likes him, not just down London way but countrywide

He is the media darling though, I think that's what he was getting at.
I think what people need to remember about AVB is that this is only his fourth job, Spurs was the longest he'd ever been at a club. It's not a slight on him, it just shows how raw he is as a manager. His second job was the biggest in Portugal, his third was one of the biggest and most difficult in England and Spurs isn't easy either. He needs to take an easy job where the pressure isn't as high to find out his level because I'm not sure he knows yet. Everything has been a challenge and to be fair, he absolutely grasped the Porto one. He's got the potential to be one of the best managers in the world but he needs stability at one club for a while and time to develop his ideas.

Spurs fans answer me this; why do you want klinsmann so much? I guess because he's a fan favourite but it's weird to me as well It's also weird how many Spurs fans seem to think we're above Capello despite the fact the man's won the fucking Champion's League
