Chelsea got through top but their group was quite easy in comparison imo, quite lucky to be in the group winners pot, Arsenal acquitted themselves far better given the caliber of opponent in their group and have a much tougher draw to look forward to.

Luck of the draw really. Don't think Utd or Chelsea would have progressed if they had Arsenal's group but you can only beat what's put in front of you and all that...

Last night must surely be the wake up call Lawwell needs. We're short in so many positions it's unreal.
Samaras' time is up too.

Realistically I think that Real Madrid actually might be the most advantageous draw for Arsenal...nothing about them is particularly going to be tactically unsettling and their defense this season has been a bit spotty. Sure, there's that whole Ronaldo/Isco/Bale thing to contend with but there aren't many pretty draws available here. As good as Arsenal have been defensively, they haven't come up against anything as lethal as Real's front line. Best they've had has been Liverpool and Dortmund, the latter successful on one occasion. Atletico are who you'd want. No easy draws, but Atletico are definitely the weakest of the squads. Rest are just horrible fixtures.

The way that Atletico are defending under Simeone makes them just about the worst draw outside of Bayern or Barca.

Barca aren't as bad a draw as the past few years either. Definitely weaker this season than under Pep.

I'm slightly concerned about Barca simply because Neymar seems as though he is starting to settle in and a comfortable Neymar can make them a whole different club.

JM's ignorance towards Atletico is appalling. No team should want to face them right now. Best options are PSG or Real but City and Arsenal are up against it either way. Utd and Chelsea shouldn't be losing against anyone they can get.

If we got Barca, they will have Messi back by the time we face them. Also, the playing style is very similar, only Barca are more successful at pulling it off. I haven't watched Atletico enough to judge them, but aren't they 2nd in La Liga right now? I wouldn't mind PSG, assuming Zlatan breaks both legs in a horrible car crash.

PSG ideally, but Atletico would be ok. Really don't want Bayern.

Atletico are possibly the 4th best team in that draw when they get their starting XI out. Might even just have them above Real. There's a way to playing against Barcelona that teams have figured out recently, that in a way makes them a more appealing prospect than ever. I wouldn't be that surprised if they won it.

Bloody hell, you know Arsenal has a difficult draw already when they think PSG is the ideal opponent. x__x

I'm a member of another forum and a guy posted this. I'll just copy and paste, it's pretty interesting... "There's a bit of a quirk with the Champions League last 16 draw where the country protection rule means that certain combinations of ties are more likely than others. For example, Arsenal only have 5 potential opponents, while Galatasaray have 7, since the Gunners can't face Chelsea or Man Utd. The countries affected by this situation are England and Germany, each of which have two group winners and two group runners-up. As a result, the chances of England v Germany ties in the next round are greatly increased. This is further increased by the fact that each of the English group winners had German runners-up, and each of the German group winners had English runners-up. This leaves each German team with only one potential English opponent (and vice versa). Specifically, Arsenal have around a 31% chance of facing Bayern Munich, Chelsea have about a 31% chance of taking on Bayer Leverkusen, Man City have about a 31% chance of getting Borussia Dortmund and Man Utd have about a 31% chance of drawing Schalke. I simulated the draw 100000 times (using a computer program I wrote for last year's draw), giving the following estimate of the odds involved.

Regardless of Atletico's form, defence and performances this season, they are one of the most likely sides out there to choke. Fuck having something to prove, they're not big boys until they go out and beat the big boys in the greater stage.
From an Olympiakos point of view, I'd prefer Dortmund > Atletico > Man Utd > Chelsea > Real > Barcelona > Bayern.

I don't think you've seen us play Solitario We're a fucking shambles but the fact that we're more scarier than Dortmund and A.Madrid according to you is a huge yet undeserved compliment
