Currently plodding through "The decline and fall of the Roman empire" by Edward Gibbon which is quite a famous book for being so ridiculously comprehensive you'd only read it as a Uni student which I am not Had to read sections of that this year. Fuck it to hell if I ever have to put up with it again. Working my way through my Dostoevsky collection. Really want to read the Book Thief as well at some point. Cormac McCarthy is great if you haven't already read much by him Star of Spurs - I'd encourage you save The Road til last. Anything else just doesn't compare for me.

I really should get to it soon, I'm still working through Long Walk To Freedom (it's great but fuck is it long) and a few philosophy books.

Finished The Fog by James Herbert not too long ago, very enjoyable read - similar writing style to King so it's no surprise that it was written in the same era King was releasing his best horror novels and horror was in high demand.
Currently reading '48 by Herbert as well, just over halfway finished and it's pretty good. Very different novel too which is good.
Thinking of finding a nice post-apocalyptic novel next, so if anyone has any recommendations (not The Road) that'd be great. Would genuinely love a book like Fallout 3.

@eric you read the Metro series? They're not fallout but still post-apoc. Pretty well regarded in terms of that genre for modern releases.

Been reading Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings recently. The Belgariad seems like it'll be a decent series, I've read the Elenium series a few times growing up and they were always my favourite fantasy novels.

Recently started getting into historical non-fiction to keep the brain active. Reading Stalingrad by Antony Beevor, so far it's excellent.
