Aye, balls them all together in the central story as well. Decent read but some of the imagery knocked me for 6, but I'm a bit of a wuss with that sort of thing.

I love it, it's Caesar! Interesting read and I love that whole time period so yeah, I'd recommend it.

Fuck, that just reminded me I still need to read Herodotus' Histories when I finished with the grapes of wrath, been sitting on that for about a year now

I love Herodotus. He's so entertaining, just records any stories he's given pretty much it's class.

The Grapes of Wrath is a right chore, 100 pages in and I really just wanna pack it in.

The Grapes of Wrath is a right chore, 100 pages in and I really just wanna pack it in. Really disappointing when you have to jack a book in when you feel you've committed too much to it already. I never finished the decline and fall of the roman empire after getting so far in to it but it just got too boring, well it always was boring it just took me a long time to accept it.

I have a genuine feeling that that'll be the case with me, too. Really want to enjoy it because it's one of the "greats" but god damn Steinbeck every sentence is just so laborous I find myself unable to remember what just happened because of skim-reading it too easily.
Edward Gibbon is a monotonous bastard, easily the worst core reading we had to do for our Rome module at Uni
