Lol we’ll be all out for 200 and be forced to follow on, lost by an innings and 60 odd runs.
No spine in the team at all.

You think we'll make it to day five?! Yes when I said that I did have the weather in mind too.

Fucking Roy. Every time he manages a boundary he invariably tries to drive the next ball through cover. That is a ball you block every time in test cricket. Roy and Denly starting is basically just starting two wickets down. And I don't foresee YJB and Buttler doing much either.

He’s been moved up to a position he doesn’t play to save Roy/Ed Smith/Joe Root’s egoes for the stupid Roy pick, a game after one of the most overlooked and crucial 50’s you’ll see in an Ashes test. I’m not saying he’s Test quality but he’s at least trying and he’s earnt some respect if not a long term place in the team. Roy on the other hand is a complete joke of a pick for tests, wasn’t even a good Red ball county player and Dom Sibley should be fuming he hasn’t been given his chance for this.

I don't care if he's been moved up a position, he's shit in every position. His average is under 25 in tests and it's only 36 in FC. He is not international quality and no amount of hard work and graft changes that. At least Roy is a good in a format of the game.

If you’d rather have Roy than Denly in test cricket I honestly don’t know what you’re watching. And he’s not just moved from 5 to 4 or anything, he’s opening, that’s a totally different skill set to batting in the middle order, and one that he doesn’t even claim to be suited for. Roy isn’t an opener in Test cricket either, but the selectors got sucked in by a good World Cup and it’s shambolic selection quite frankly.

I've literally said multiple times I don't want either. I'd get rid of both and Buttler and bring in Sibley, Pope and Foakes and let Bairstow just bat. I don't care about who is worse out of the two because neither are near being good enough.

tbf in this series if you're batting in the top 5 you've effectively still been an opener. I'm guessing allah doesn't have much faith in these 2 seeing us home...

Agree that’s so harsh on Denly, he’s been moved about for everyone else so much and has clearly been better than everyone bar Stokes, Burns and Root. Feel like him at 3 and Root at 4 with Sibley opening was the clear way to go but the selectors completely fucked this. Long term you might turn out right but once you’ve picked Roy (which the general consensus was definitely favourable towards pre-Ashes), taking him out after 4 games in a position he doesn’t play in red-ball cricket is absolutely ridiculous
Baffled as to how Overton was considered the way to go, I know we’ve had injuries but every time he comes in seems to coincide with a massive Aussie partnership, he just doesn’t look threatening at all

Overton’s also racist and can fuck right off.
Bayliss leaving after this anyway and I think now we’ve won a World a cup some focus will be our back towards test cricket as it should be. Separate teams for different formats based on what’s the best in that format should allow us to compete for honours in all three going forward, with some overlap like Stokes and Root obviously.
Also, I’m loathe to be reactionary but anyone else think Root is a poor captain?

Root is absolutely a poor captain, the field positioning after tea yesterday is what took the game away from us. If we (as seems likely) lose here he's gonna end up with 1 Ashes win in 9 matches which was pretty much solely down to Stokes, and be the first to lose the Ashes on home soil in almost 2 decades. It has also clearly affected his batting.
Problem is I don't know who you give it to, who's even assured of their place at the moment? If we assume you don't want a bowler captain then only Root and maybe Burns are definite starters. Honestly, the teams just in a bit of a mess and needs some new blood who've actually seen a red ball before.

Buttler is the best cricketing mind they have but obv he shouldn’t even be in the team probably, never mind captaining
Wish they thought more about the captaincy, it’s clear Root doesn’t need it and you’re hindering our best batsman, but joined up thinking doesn’t seem to be a strength of ours

Also, I’m loathe to be reactionary but anyone else think Root is a poor captain? I thought regardless of the series result Root should drop captaincy, he’s been poor before this too and it’s affected his batting. Stokes is the obvious choice but I’m not sure how he would be with decisions, like Bollo said Buttler would have been a good shout but probably shouldn’t be in the team. Don’t like bowlers as captains but Broad maybe the best choice. Also don’t really understand the Denly hate either, you’re all complaining about him and Roy but the reason they’re there is because no one was knocking the door down on the county scene. The Roy experiment I don’t blame them for trying but it’s time to change opener after this series. Until they find a solid number 3 I would just stick Denly there and bat Root at 4.

Also baffling how Sam Curran hasn’t got in considering he was the sole reason for the win vs India last summer. Could have even had him in for Buttler and probably wouldn’t have done much worse.
