Can't have a man as wk if he's never put gloves on surely? Nice to see Denly punish Harris for that drop last night with a fairly accomplished knock here. I thought that but then the two actual keepers have been shite so sod it

Paine purely with the gloves has been alright, he's just almost unbelievably bad with DRS.

Might be a long shot but anyone ever followed England away? Wanting to go to Sri Lanka in March for the first test in Galle, wondering if I’ll need to book tickets or if I can just buy them there.

DanAndersonKRO has done it before a couple of times - be easier to reach him on Twitter though.

Starting to look very much like we’ve found a batting lineup! Stokes is going to win back to back SPOTY.

Shame Burns is out for a bit, but him and Sibley both look like they've got that boring grit you need in an opener. Denly isn't the greatest, but Root, Stokes, Pope is a ridiculosuly strong middle order. Current weak spot looks like Buttler tbh.

Btw I’m absolutely going to be at the first test in Galle in March, so excited for it. Shame about Burns but should be an amazing few days.

Said it in the Ashes and will day again here - the role Denly does in this side isn’t the traditional “best player at number three”, but it’s absolutely invaluable. If he gets 30s and 40s and uses up the new ball it gives so much license to that middle order to do their thing and is absolutely crucial to how we want to play.

But that was moreso the case when we had Roy getting out for nothing. Sibley is clearly capable atm of doing that as well as can Burns when he gets back. If those two can get a partnership to work then we should be looking to move Denly on. I also wouldn't take him to Sri Lanka because the man looks lost against spinners.

I just don’t see the benefit in dropping Denly right now when there’s no one screaming out for his place, let’s keep the team that’s doing well. Plus I suspect test centuries are a bit random and I think he’s due one soon.

I'd just keep Crawley in the squad and when Burns comes back have it be a competition. We're apparently looking at getting Keaton Jennings back in for Sri Lanka so Crawley should be competing for the spot there.

Neither of them are number three’s though, you’re shoe horning a solution even worse than you are with Denly there.

Crawley if he makes it won't be an opener he's just filling a spot right now. The only place he'd slot in in the next few years would be a number 3 so him as an injury replacement/competition would be his current place. I'm not saying he steps in full time yet but Denly is currently the likely weakest link out of our opening 6.
I also absolutely would call up Foakes ahead of Buttler considering Sri Lanka where fast hands at the stumps matters.

Crawley hasn’t batted a single game at 3 in his county career though? It’s not the same skill set as opening and I don’t think you can just drop an opener down a spot and expect success. I’m also not convinced Crawley is anywhere near test match level at the moment either.
