Was going to write a post in defence of Denly but I decided that wasn’t the hill I wanted to die on lol. Obviously he’s not the answer long term but I thought he’d been better than his average so far, and you could at least count on him to see off a few balls. Think it’s a bit weird, if he’d scored 6 more at The Oval in the final Ashes test I’m sure he’d still be in the team, but he hasn’t got a century yet so he’s out. Would personally have made the unpopular decision to stick with him, provides a bowling option as well.

I like Denly well enough in spite of him being a meme but I think that Sibley offers you the same sort of batsman except better and a decade younger leaving Denly a bit redundant right now.

Who would have been dropped for Denly to stay in? Cause if the answer is the guy who got our highest score in the previous test then I don't know what Crawley is meant to do to be given an extended chance at 3. First ballers happen, if he gets a king pair I might care about Denly starting next test otherwise give the obviously more talented and younger player the opportunity.

The thing is Crawley hasn’t shown me anything to get into the England team in the first place, I don’t know what he’s doing there. This is the England Test Team not England Lions, it’s a bit silly imo.

Crawley didn’t exactly make a massive score though, and also it’s not like he won’t have opportunities in the future. Can’t blame them for the decision they made, especially going with youth but I still think Denly has merit. Obviously it’s very quick considering he’s just got a golden duck, easy to say now.

He's a weird one cause he's started off quite well at international level and doesn't look too bad, but then I saw his first class average of just over 30 lol. As for Denly, he kinda came in to fix our problem of being 3 or 4 down for very little and he does that effectively. The problem is he then gets out playing a very poor shot when realistically he should be well in and able to play a proper innings.

Thank god for that Sibley and Stokes partnership because the rest of this performance has been total dross.

6th session now and haven't reached 400 yet lol. I know it's important to be patient but need to score runs a bit quicker than that to win games.

The pitch is atrociously slow, this is a way better score than it seems. Well, well above par.

Agree, this is a very good score on this pitch but the weather is a real concern.
Windies nearly out of bowlers at this point, good time to grab a few quick runs and then declare.

I think it's a good score, it's just the time. That said I think a West Indies side that has to go out and defend a lot won't do very well so we should be ok.

Ben Stokes is just straight up my favourite sportsman to watch right now. 176 (356) and 78* (57) in the same match is utterly ridiculous.
