Winning titles with a squad that's much better and more expensive than the rest of the league
Having success in your home country, because it's probably a shithole and when it comes to holiday destinations, I'd rather go to Spain. Or Bognor Regis.
Relying on some 93rd minute magic from the best player in the league to pull it out of the bag when all seemed lost
Dropping one of your most talented strikers because he's being a petulant twat and not trying
Record points totals
The verdict: Roberto Mancini is a shit manager.

Building a champions league winning squad and then watching someone else actually end up winning the thing using your team and tactics

Surely if AVB had no say in who was signed as you claim then it's harsh to claim that his lack of success was all his own fault?
Bit of a contradiction wouldn't you say?

Yes it can. Even if we accept everything you say to be true (I don't , but I'll work with it) , not being able to sign players you want is a very plausible explanation for not being as successful as hoped. Especially true in AVB's case, he's a young, progressive manager who has a system in mind. So he needs to buy players to fit the system, Abramovich or whoever else signing who they want is counter productive when they appoint someone like AVB. The idea of 'he knew what he was getting into so it's no excuse' is the problem here. of course it's an excuse. a fucking good one at that.

part of being a manager has always been signing players, it's baffling to suggest it's your own fault if that's taken out of your hands and you don't have players you actually want. Directors of Football deciding theyre gonna buy all the players is a relatively new thing, historically managers have always gone out and signed players and then played them the way they want.

I get your point Mike, in that he should have known what he was walking into, but that doesn't make it any less true? His "failure" has to be apportioned just like the responsibility to handle things in the club should be. Fair enough I'm not absolving him of the blame, but you can't blame him for the whole situation if he wasn't responsible for the whole situation in the first place, Emenalo etc has to take blame as well for buying players that to cut a long story short, did not work out. AVB has proved at Chelsea and now at Spurs that he can't work well under a Director of Football making signings for him, shown best through his lack of faith in Lamela, who afaik was a Baldini signing through and through. This means his next job he won't accept such a situation, if he's smart, and he can prove he IS a good manager if that's the case, which I think it is. Look at some of his signings at Porto, not done badly have they? Fwiw cl7 I agree with you, Emenalo could have a bigger say than I think but it's not as if anyone here, Mike included sits in on board meetings, so it's not a certainty.

my point is aimed towards 'they know what they're getting into so it's no excuse' I really couldn't care less who buys the players. I doubt AVB was just lumped with whoever this prick wanted to sign very much. But if he was, that's a massive factor in why he failed there. Just because he 'knew what he was getting into' doesn't change that.

Holy fuck he actually thinks AVB is the worst manager we've ever had
That's a level of stupidity I literally cannot process

Either way it's pathetic
Oh and Arse is ludicrously pro-Arsenal, what a surprise. That place has become a parody of itself but there's no one to acknowledge it anymore
Also, why aren't those two banned?
"well i reckon there's probably a manager or other in 1934 who cocked up even worse"
do these people seriously forget that we were midtable and immensely average not even a decade ago? or that we were in a relegation battle for 2/3 of 2008/09?

Ppd was down into the 20's last time I looked, remove those two and it'd be single figures even with a "Sky Sports News Lunchtime Report - The Livechat" daily thread.
