Finished reading Slash's autobiography recently. Great stuff until up until the point where he left G n' R, his life just wasn't as interesting after that.
Also finished reading all the current A Song of Ice and Fire books. Amazing stuff but it's a little inconsistent. The third book is probably the best book I've read in my life, then the fourth one was so dull and slow paced finished it felt like a chore. Book 5 was good but I was kind of dismayed at how many cliffhangers it ended on. Especially when GRRM has only managed to put out 2 books in the last 12 years.
I got The Hobbit for Christmas so I'm about half way through that atm.

I'd encourage anyone who hasn't seen the film or wants to watch the film, or just loves incredibly well written literature, to read The Road by Cormac McCarthy. One of my alltime favourite reads and probably the only book to date I've read in one sitting. I found that book extremely grey and depressing to be totally honest haha. I actually felt horrible after I read it, didn't enjoy it at all. Different strokes I suppose. Ha, it does is both of those things and exceptionally so. I just felt it was refreshing to be able to read something so crystal clear in prose but so deep in everything that makes literature good (metaphor, symbolism, tugging on yer heart strings etc). Plus Cormac has to be the smoothest guy ever. He's so chill even though the majority of what he writes turns to gold. No Country for Old Men and Blood Meridian are both equally epic. Still plodding my way through Crime & Punishment by Dostoevsky. Like to think I'll finish it before the month is out. Then I'll be onto reading one of the books np suggested from the Ancients alongside a biography of Lenin I've had chilling for a while. Good mix!

Compared to Notes from the Underground its a friggin breeze haha
It always seems to be that when I'm just getting a good steady reading pace on that he decides to throw in the most absurdly long name as well

Ugh, I remember that the first time that I read Crime and Punishment I actually had to keep a notepad with every character's Russian patronymics in order to keep them all straight. Total mare.
Great book though.

Finished reading Ozzy's book on Saturday and really enjoyed it. It was great reading through his Sabbath days while listening to the albums he was talking about recording. The book started to pick up after he left Sabbath though. The story of Randy Rhoads' death is so scary, like something from a horror novel.
Big respect for Ozzy after reading it, and respect for Sharon Osbourne too, who I've always hated. Ozzy's life would've been a hard luck story without her.
Also finished reading Fight Club last night. Surprisingly short novel but always wanted to give it a go because the movie is one of my favourites. Varies quite a bit from the movie and the way the whole 'twist' done in the movie is nothing like the book.
Time for Salem's Lot next!

Just started reading Moneyball. Seems good and a very intriguing story behind it. I really know shit all about baseball though, so a lot of the lingo and stuff is going over my head, but I enjoy the maths and statistics parts

My mate got a book/DVD boxset in one and said they were both excellent. Want to watch and read both but I'm more of a fan of the book first (as @eric will tell you) if it's the original...

Germany's Top Scorer hates books. True story. Didn't realise there was a novel on Moneyball. Seen most of the movie, very enjoyable.

Four books through in my 52 in 52 attempt this year. Just finished Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell - more of a long essay than a book, but it's a fascinating read.

I got loads of books for Christmas & a lot of time so I thought I'd go for it. I doubt I'll actually do the 52 in 52 but lowering it feels like admitting defeat already
starting on mandela's autobiography now. may live to regret this

I haven't seen the film no. Again, haven't a notion about baseball, so I didn't have an interest in the film. So far I'm not certain how the book would translate onto film as it's just guys sitting in a room chatting about stats and flashbacks, but obviously people enjoyed it so I assume it's done well!

Is it worth forking out the extra £40-£50 just to get a back light on the Kindle guys?

Is it worth forking out the extra £40-£50 just to get a back light on the Kindle guys? One of the disadvantages of the basic kindle is no light, but if you can get yourself a cheap bedside lamp, it defeats the purpose of the back light.
