Soccer Nerd Central or SNC was formed on the 1st December 2013. The community here originated and was largely built over the course of over 10 years on the football (soccer) forum of a popular hardware and gaming website, but due to a series of disagreements with those in power a decision was made to create a breakaway forum in which we could govern ourselves. We are by large a group of UK and Ireland based football supporters who have been brought together due to a love of gaming and we pride ourselves on being able to have reasoned and engaging discussions not only on the sport of football but a wide variety of topics.
FAQ
What is Promovendi Qualitatem Per Exclusionem?
The phrase in the forum header is a (loose) Latin translation meaning 'Promoting Quality Through Exclusion' or PQTE. PQTE was a campaign on the former website initiated by members of the community in order to try to boost the post quality of it's members. Forum regulars traditionally would pick apart new members posts who they felt were not contributing positively to the forum, leading to a conscious effort from newcomers to improve their posts to the point where they felt like an accepted part of the community. As a sticking point between the football community and those in charge of the website, PQTE become one of the instigating factors in the eventual exodus from and the creation of SNC.
Why Soccer Nerd Central?
The football forum was often seen as something of an enigma for members of different communities on the old site, and during one of the more public affairs one outsider famously described the community as a "bunch of soccer nerds". The community adopted the ironic title which developed into 'Soccer Nerd Conventions' for meet ups with forum members and eventually become the name of the new home.
What exactly caused the community to create an independent forum?
Ultimately it came down to a complete and total difference in ideologies between the admin staff and the respected and regular members of the forum. We wanted a place where we were free to discuss and debate without having to censor ourselves but we felt those in charge were more interested in traffic volumes and steering topics of conversation toward a more PG audience to appease advertisers. The direction the site was heading in was just not compatible with the football supporter culture that was in place.
Who is in charge now?
We have a group of staff to take care of any necessary moderating duties but after what felt like a dicatorship under the admins of the old site we want to promote the idea that this is a democracy where everyone gets a say. We won't make any major decisions about this site without the approval of the majority.
If you see anything which you feel does need attention then feel free to contact Gianni Infantino, @djed, ange postecoslamp, g7vikings or @mikecfc.
GUIDELINES
Please head the global Proboards community guidelines when posting on this forum in order for us to avoid any potential issues with our host site. We have received warnings for inappropriate posts containing nudity so please be mindful.
As an aside from the above guidelines, the forum itself is largely self-moderating through a combination of peer pressure and mob rule. When posts fall below the accepted standard they're often called out for it without the need for moderator involvement. However, there are a few instances in which moderators will have to act, and those include any posts that contain racism, homophobia, as well as any actions or comments that are intentionally and personally offensive to the targeted member, specifically the use of mental illnesses to insult them.
