Current Event Discussion: Australian Open
I know we're at the semi-final stage already (well, nearly), so a brief recap.
On the mens (so, the important) side of the draw, the first semi final will see Berdych vs Wawrinka. Huge chance for two players who've looked the closest of the chasing pack of breaking the monopoly held by Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and Murray that has seen them win the last 16 slams between them and, Del Potro at the US in 2009 aside, every slam since 2005. Berdych has coasted through his half of the draw, even putting away with ease the number three seed Ferrer. Wawrinka again took Djokovic to five sets but this time came out on top.
The other semi will feature the winner of Dimitrov and Nadal. So Nadal then. Furthest Dimitrov has been and his most notable achievement so far has been nailing this;
The last spot in the semi's will be taken up by the winner of Murray vs Federer. Should be an absolute classic, Murray is returning from his back surgery and apart from a small blip has looked brilliant. Federer looks reborn under his new coach and is playing a far more aggressive game. Coming to the net far more often should in theory play into Murray's hands, but when done effectively can get under his skin ala Roddick at Wimbledon.
Idc about the womans side but Li Na will win, Bouchard is a babe and also Laura Robsons best friend. Serena and Sharapova are already out.

That Murray pic is fucking terrifying. Haven't watched any of the australian open, but i don't really watch it until the quarters anyway. As much as i've always liked Fed, hoping Murray just straight sets him to save the intensity for when he loses against Nadal in the final.

Federer to ruin the Scot.
Like both, but think it'll be a case of coming back of injury being too much to stop him from going all the way.

Loving the way that this tournament has panned out. Not counting Hewitt, 4 of the last 6 are my 4 favourite tennis players (Murray, Federer, Wawrinka and Berdych).
At this stage it's an anyone but Nadal job for me (although to be honest, all grand slams are that, except the French which I just resign myself to him winning anyway).
Murray vs Federer will be an interesting match. Obviously want Murray to win every Grand Slam but I wouldn't be that bothered if Federer beats him because I'm liking that Federer is having a little resurgence and I'd like him to win at least one more Grand Slam.
Berdych vs Wawrinka will be good and I certainly wouldn't count either out vs Murray or Federer in a final situation (I'd expect Nadal would beat them, but that's maybe because I'm being pessimistic because I don't want him to win).
Womens side of it some shocks in there too. Azarenka will probably win it unless Li can play to her very best and Azarenka has an off day.

Aye I think Nadal is the clear favourite. Still though, huge change for Murray who excels here, can't see him beaten a resurgent Federer and then a fresh Nadal without using up a lot of energy, could be picked off by Wawrinka/Berdych in the final but I keep thinking how awesome it would be if in the space of 18 months Murray goes from a nearly man to Olympic champion and having won 3 of 4 Grand Slams.
I can't fucking stand Azarenka. She has a cunt of a partner, she's chunky, her facial expressions and mannerisms pisses me off. Hope she loses every time she plays.

Radwanska/Azarenka has been a good watch so far. Azarenka has been well and truly dicked in the first set.
Big fan of Radwanska. Reckon she has a great chance of winning her first grand slam here.

Some stats I posted on another forum
I believe thats the first time Djokovic hasnt made the semi finals of a slam since Wimbledon 2010.
It will also be the first time since January 2011 that he wont hold one of the grand slam titles.
Should Murray make the final, it will be the first time he will have gone in the higher ranked player.
If Nadal wins the tournament then he will be the first player in the open era to complete 2 career grand slams.
If Murray defeats Federer tomorow morning and Nadal beats Dimitrov, then it will be the first time we have seen a Murray v Nadal match since October 2011.
Berdych/Wawrinka/Dimitrov will be looking to become only the second player outside the big 4 to win a grand slam since Australian Open 2005. The first was Del Potro at US Open 2009.

Azarenka's whining is bloody annoying. Radwanska needs to hurry up and end her.
Can't wait for Murray/Federer.

Not watching it but Nadal has lost the first set to Dimitrov 6-3. Would be great if he got knocked out aswell.

Gwan, love a bit of Radwanska.
Nasal playing poorly due to a blister apparently. Wawrinka and Berdych must be licking their lips.
Federer playing immensely so far, hardly gave Murray a chance.

Brilliant fight from Murray to drag him through that set. Federer can't last 5 vs him, Murray starts strongly in this 4th set and I reckon he's got it.

Out of interest why does everyone not like Nadal? Presume it's cos of the monotony of the same winner every time?

I like Rafa. D:
Murray's starting to look like someone who has been out injured for a while.
