Caught the tail end of the women's final and Serena' head fully fell off. Got a code violation for coaching (which everyone does tbf) and then a point violation for smashing her racquet and THEN a game violation for arguing with the umpire. Genuinely felt sorry for Osaka winning her first slam in those circumstances.

"You are a liar. You will never be on a court of mine as long as you live. When are you going to give me my apology? Say you are sorry."
That’s flat out unacceptable and extraordinarily entitled. Being unhappy about the original decision is as far as I’ll go with her because everyone pretty much gets coached and the rule is applied haphazardly. But her coach admitted what he was doing straight after the match was over so all her holier than thou posturing saying she’s never cheated was pretty hollow (bringing her kid into it ffs). It’s a slam dunk and anyone trying to turn it into something else is seeing what they want to rather than what happened.

The actual state of some of the articles defending her today, alluding to the negative reaction being due to her race or her sex rather than her disgustingly entitled attitude and rudeness towards the umpire who made three correct calls.
It's not the first time she's done so either so criticising him for enforcing the rules, bringing her daughter up, calling him a thief, demanding an apology, saying he'll never umpire her matches again is just shameful, frankly.

Also, to anyone saying that umpires in general or that umpire particular would never give a code violation to the top male players...

It's a bit of a shame she's got half of America saying the world revolves around her and she's believing it now. What I will say though is its not all that worse than what we'd see some footballers doing each week.

Aye, that's the thing he's well known for doing it and indeed is one of the only umpires to do so consistently amongst the top players.
Articles around the US today now saying that it's sexist because the response has been to claim she was emotional, but when a male player does it he's passionate.
I don't recall Murray/Djokovic bringing their children into rants at the umpire or demanding apologies?

Even if she was spot on, it’s the entitledness of the rant that gets me. Can tell she wants to be umpired as Serena Williams, legend of tennis rather than just any normal player.

WTA chief executive Steve Simon said the umpire showed Williams a different level of tolerance over Saturday's outbursts than if she had been a man. Laughable, literally look at the video above where Djojovic is penalised for waving his raqeut. Actually embarrassing that they've not come out and supported the umpire who was called a thief and a cheat for simply enforcing the rules he has to work by. Her argument that "no male player has ever been punished for calling an umpire a thief" is only correct because I can't recall a male player actually doing so.

Haven’t been into tennis much since Nadal was in his prime but seeing Andy Murray is retiring within 6 months, possibly even in the next month or so, is so sad. He’s been a great sportsman for the UK.
