Not looking good for Nishikori, Cilic just has too much power for him

Cilic 14 is just Del Potro 09.

Cilic 14 is just Del Potro 09. Fair play to Cilic, beat what was put in front of him convincingly but Del Potro's was a lot more exciting, beat Federer at the peak of his powers in a five-set thriller in the final.

All after beating Nadal in straight sets in the semi. Raw talent-wise Del Potro > Murray imo. It's just the injuries that buggered him.

Was moreso on about the style of play suiting the New York court Mycon, nail you serve and hit to the baseline and you'll be unstoppable if you've got a strong forehand. Also disagree entirely you give me rrrroad rrrrage, Murray's touch and technique is far ahead of Del Potro at his best.

For me with Murray, I don't really feel he's underachieved with regards to what he's won in the generation of talent he finds himself in. Del Potro has only one fewer slam and I can't help getting the sense that there is a mountain of lost potential there. Both Murray and Djokovic improved massively in the early part of this decade but their rise was also undoubtedly aided by Federer's decline and Nadal's injuries. Del Potro pushed the latter two AT THEIR PEAK in grand slams (albeit very briefly) substantially harder than Djokovic or Murray (or arguably anyone) ever really got close to doing, and he's still only 25. Murray undoubtedly moves better and has more subtlety to his game. However, I genuinely think Del Potro's game is/was bigger than anyone else's groundstrokes-wise (he could just hit through people seemingly at will). On a hard court on top form I'd say he was nigh-on unplayable vs anyone and I just can't say the same for Murray.

Yeah his game on a hard court is huge, though I'd disagree that he was pushing Nadal/Federer at their peak more than at least Djokovic was, Murray's the main beneficiary of Federer's aging (though he's had a winning record against him for several years now up until recently) and Nadal's injuries but Djokovic was up to their level before they slipped slightly. Would you not say at his best on grass Murray is unplayable though? Because I sure would, those 12 months from Wimbledon gold medal, through Queens and then his Wimbledon title were stunning.

Murray didn't play his best tennis during Wimbledon though, rode his luck during that tournament with his easier draw. Played well vs Djokovic (though not a GOAT performance, Novak had a bit of an off-day).

A well-hit Del Potro forehand is one of the best things in tennis.

What a performance from Federer, every time I think he might be past it he proves me wrong.
