As you may know (or at least breathlessly reiterate), pundits, writers and people who've played the game know fuck all compared to us, the humble masses who consume football the same way pigs do to the hitchhikers in Garth's basement. Therefore it's up to us to tell them what's what. Because the season's ended and Brazil are cruelly keeping away all interest in football away for the next month (bar the obvious La Liga final, Champion's League, Europa League and who could forget the EARTH SHAKING transfers that aren't happening), we need to entertain ourselves. What else are we going to do, poke the hitchhikers in Garth's basement?
Here's how this'll work. Every day for 11 days I'll suggest a new position. Unlike the one's Garth suggests to the hitchhikers in his basement however, these ones are quite achievable - they're the basics in a 4-4-2. Because fuck you and your 3-5-2's, we're doing this my way. You're going to select a player and then make a case as to why they've been the best in that position this year in a grand democratic oh fuck off Mike Lukaku isn't even a right back.
So we start with a goalkeeper. Who do you prefer, Joe Hart's magnificent dandruff-less performance? David Marshall's brave performance as the human embodiment of "locking the stable door"? Hugo Lloris for being unconscious for 2/3 of the season and still being our best player?
I'm going for Petr Cech personally, he's always looked good. Been a decent keeper too.

David De Gea.
Biased obviously, but he really has been superb. Made one glaring error in the League Cup but been solid throughout and put in a few candidates for save of the season. Plus the fact he's been busier than ever playing behind a god awful defence.

De Gea. He may not have gotten the most clean sheets but he was the standout performer in a dreadful United team. Should start for Spain at the World Cup should Casillas run into any problems, will definitely lead Spain and his club, whether it be United or one of Spain's big three, to successes in the coming years. Matured fantastically since he joined the league.

Cech for me. He has been solid all season for Chelsea and helped them to 3rd place.

De Gea cos he's not Cech.
In all seriousness though, it's between those two and Marshall imo considering Lloris has been disappointing by his standards at times, so I'm going for De Gea because in the massive shite that was United's season, he was the one constantly good player.

Wojciech kept 16 clean sheets, the same amount as Cech, deserves to be ahead of Marshall and Lloris easily. Joint most clean sheets in the league, having come back from being dropped last season, made some big saves at crucial times and very few errors this season. Did as well as Cech (in admittedly a few more games) behind a much worse defence.

Marshall, without him Cardiff would have been relegated about 4 months ago.

Petr Cech
No goalkeeper has stood out head and shoulders above any other, so I'm going purely on stats and Petr Cech wins those stats. Top keeper and has been part of a very solid back 5 this year. Be interesting to see whether Chelsea cash in on him and bring Courtois in or whether they stick with him, can't really go too wrong with either.
