Here's a run down of what I reckon happened. NIGHT PHASE 0 It was the biggest night of the year for the players, as they gathered to find out who would be crowned World Player of the Year. There were nerves amongst some of them, while others were confident in their own ability. Sepp Blatter, universally respected by all within the football community, stood to make his announcement. When it came, there was shock amongst many of the faces present. As he went to collect his award, it was mostly silence until one of the favourites for the award stood to applaud him. Many followed his lead. However he noticed that some refused to applaud, some looked angry, incredibly so. He was proud of himself, but at the end of the day, it was only an award. McShane collects award. He couldn't believe the result. It was just another slight against him, another way for the media to ridicule him. He stormed off to begin his plans of revenge. I reckon Suarez, both due to the media and the fact that Suarez will be not Europe aligned. SK who goes round biting people? The tall man stood to the back of the arena and watched as the joke unfolded. He had huge confidence in himself, so he knew it was a farce. He found everyone there pathetic, beneath him. It was a joke, yes, but part of him was sick of the disrespect shown. He hadn't even made the shortlist this year. That part grow within him, until the anger grabbed hold of him. He would make them see how good he was. I reckon Zlatan for this, largely for the beneath him bit. Cult leaderThe winner drifted off from his friends to get some fresh air. As he went out, nobody noticed the small magician follow him. He had been quiet through the ceremony. He had won awards. He had been lauded in his career. But this was beyond a joke. It's because everything is focussed on this continent, they believe they are the centre of the football world. No more. He stabbed the winner from behind and left quickly to find his peers and to organise their next move. Messi, most likely the killer for mafia. The leader was the first to find him. He instantly gathered others to try and figure out what happened. Some remained quiet, and shifty, some were grieving at the loss of a friend. They would have to talk this out to find the murderer. 'Leader' of Europe. Ronaldo seems likeliestnotpropaganda is dead! He was: Paul McShane – Europe Aligned Ginger Zidane and Universally Acknowledged Best Player in the World
It is now Day Phase 1 - you have 48 hours. With 18 active players, 10 are required to lynch. Deadline is 6:30 PM GMT - December 25th.

With town being Europe aligned and it making reference to him not being shortlisted I doubt it's Ronaldo. I could be wrong but he's definately not the first person I thought of, an African player maybe? good shout @killeripod reckon you're right. That's Yaya, surely.

Continent bit threw me off of thinking it's Messi, I'm guessing it's nationality based and not location based then?

Suarez and Messi are both South American though and the write-up suggests that they're working for two separate parties. Auarez sounds like he's starting his own thing which makes me think he's a cult leader.
Would buy him being it more than Zlatan, the write-up doesn't really present Zlatan as a team player.

I don't think it's nationality based at all @djed, I reckon the mafia alignment will be "disgruntled players aligned" or something along those lines. I wouldn't at this stage rule out a player being mafia based on his continent.

Well everything in that segment suggests Messi (fits in with calibre of players that seem to fit the description so far) bar the continent bit, I can't think of any player who's won awards and been lauded who plays outside of Europe? Asamoah Gyan rofl
Could be an ex-player especially if it's mafia leader but fuck knows

How do I? I've been the first to try and discern anything from that write up?

That was my original thought but the awkward bastard was shortlisted @tom it was Paul McShane I gathered, hence his death? localnative but it sounds like the mafia is the top players, pissed off at being overlooked at the awards. You're awfully stuck on Ronaldo not being mafia... I don't think Zlatan is either as they're both European.
