Fair play to Olise signing a new Palace deal. Either that means Chelsea will have to pay more now or he’s wanting to stick with them

I’ve seen Hall play about twice and both of them were out of position but for someone who’s played 9 senior games and only racked up 26 matches worth of minutes across PL and PL2 level, I can’t understand where the demand for £30m comes from other than one Saudi interest propping up another Saudi interest, albeit Chelsea are less of a direct Saudi interest. I mean he’s an 18 year old English player who has looked terrific whenever he’s played, not to mention he was playing in an absolute car crash Chelsea team. If you want to go searching for that narrative then fair enough (it might even be true, though I doubt it). The price really isn’t that out of the ordinary in today’s market, Guehi went for big money without playing in the PL, Solanke had done nothing and went for £20m, and that was 4 years ago. The price looks cheap if anything for me. Solanke had 5 times more appearances than Hall and won a Golden Ball at the U20 World Cup iirc, they are absolutely not comparable.

Well on the Premier League appearances you’re just plain wrong, he had just over double the amount of Hall. It’s clearly not just about the number of appearances it’s about how you’ve performed. Unless you’re arguing that we should be impressed by 1 Premier League goal in 21 appearances for a striker? Bit confused on your overall point, not to mention this was 4 years ago anyway and the market has changed since then. Seems a weird point to quibble over anyway.

My point is it's a poor comparison considering you're trying to justify Hall's transfer fee.

Majority of discourse on social media seems to think it’s a very good price for Newcastle tbf

To be fair, Solanke didn’t play a whole load for us. 27 games and only the equivalent of 11 full games, 1 goal still isn’t impressive but he was clearly a very good football who just couldn’t break into a front 3 that scored 95 goals between them in his only full season here. I do think he had a lot more of a proven quality in senior football than Hall though, considering a very good spell abroad as a 17 year old
I think Hall is more comparable with Bournemouth paying £10m or whatever it was for Brad Smith

yes, and he's a youth player so the money in is pure profit or whatever, but the reason they're letting Newcastle do it specifically I think isn't just a need to sell to FFP Seems a bit spurious to me, but ah well. £28m+ deal agreed, love that. tbh I'm just gonna look at any Chelsea deals with Newcastle or the Saudi clubs (or anyone associated with PIF) with a lot of skepticism considering the links with Clearlake. The deadwood being shipped out to Saudi this summer was suss to say the least imo Chelsea need to sell for FFP but it's a *really* good deal for Newcastle for a very highly rated academy product. Considering the money Chelsea are then throwing out on other young players not coming through the academy it's a bit strange to accept this offer, in this market, for a player like Hall (a position Chelsea are not exactly blessed in, in terms of quality - Cucurella, and reliability - Chilwell). The guy is signed through to 2030. Why accept £28mill, the only leverage against Chelsea is the need for money to come in for FFP, but Hall was never on the table as a potential sale before this?

He’s a Newcastle fan as well, it’s not out of the question that he’s asked to leave given who has came in for him (and the way both teams have performed over the last 18 months

We’ve sabotaged our own season to lure Chelsea into paying £170m for Caicedo and Lavia
We saw City dupe Arsenal into paying £105m for Rice and one-upped them

Chelsea not taking any money off Newcastle for Hall until next summer is nice of them, isn’t it.

Brentford have literally just done the same for Arsenal, must all be a conspiracy though
