A lot of UKIPs support comes from people who don't really get politics, and just see broad issues then side with the party who shares the same view of them. Obviously any form of religious extremest is bad, so when you have a party that's actively (Well, not that they'll admit that) have a perceived view of being against the offending groups/religions then they're going to get votes. Plus you hear so much of the 'the old way didn't work, the main parties are defunct' so people feel like they have to go in a new direction. In all honesty the perfect balances lays somewhere between the 'big three'. The Green's are off their nuts 'Come back to us in a few months and we'll have a full financial plan of how to turn around the national debt' you've had years upon years to make a plan, Jesus what were you people doing all this time?! UKIP doesn't really have much in the way of plans either, but it's okay because they only get asked about the big talking issues so they get away with it. It's still between the big three, it's just a question of how much the others will impact things. In all likelihood we're heading for another coalition government, probably Labour-Lib Dem this time round, because the Tories did a fantastic job of ass fucking themselves over the past 4 years.

I've been thinking more about that recently, I genuinely don't understand how the tories get so many votes. I really don't get how someone can make a logical decision that voting tory would benefit them unless they are in the top 10% or so of earners. Obviously they might have a specific policy/stance that you agree with but how they get so many votes baffles me a bit. Meh, while I agree to an extent, the argument can easily be flipped to say it's ridiculous that Alan Sugar is a Labour-supporter. You should vote for who you think should lead the country, not who will benefit you the most. Surprised with that, thought I'd be a lot more left and a lot more authoritarian.

I would probably vote labour but I think Ed Milliband would be an awful prime minister to have so really do not know.

If I remember correctly, that political compass is a little bit left biased, basically everyone I've ever seen do it has ended up on the left side and you have to be really conservative to go to the right on it.

Definitely got that vibe that most people come away in the bottom left. I think the potentially center-right/right leaning questions are also worded to make you feel bad for wanting to answer them honestly, too.
Plus it's pretty two dimensional to essentially tar any political ideology from multiple eras into a quiz. If there was a French Revolution based quiz I'm sure I'd be nationalist because nationalism was far, far, left back then. But when Stalinism came around Nationalism was far, far, right. In today's society, nationalism is still far right but because of the way the UK and the USA have altered the base ideology of their traditionally left-leaning political programs & revisionist theory means Stalinism is akin to (traditionally fascist) authoritarianism.
Case and point: I actually agree with Stalinist economics, or maybe better suited to call it Marxist economics I guess, in that individualism should be curbed in favour of the state who then control the redistribution of wealth, but that is so contradictory to Libertarianism in the modern sense, which is very much laissez faire and conservative at it's core and yet that's where I ended up because the only way I'm coming up top is if I'm radically conservative in my social answers like hating gays and loving my race. I dunno, it seems a bit backwards & it didn't really go into detail where it thinks you are aligned in different topics.
As I said though, keeping good company with Marx and Trotsky

Yeah, it makes basically every multi-national company out to be the same greedy, epitome of evil organisation. Wouldn't be the biggest fan of them myself but it's hardly that black and white.
'Predator multinationals' or 'what's good for successful corporations is ultimately always good for us'. I mean obviously not but that doesn't mean you're necessarily a big critic of them.
Plus stuff like 'the rich are too highly taxed'. Who is going to go 'strongly agree' unless you are incredibly wealthy.

hence why there's a plethora of programmes about benefits on Channel Four or Channel Five, both of which are owned/run by people with links to the Conservative party iirc.

I am getting to the stage where any political party trying to do anything about weakening the power of Middle East terrorists not advocating for massively reducing our reliance on oil and trying to decriminalise drugs is just inherently hypocrital (not that they aren't anyway, but still.) Pushing money into nuclear power, giving subsidies to electric car manufacturers and reducing the amount of money made from opium would put a massive dent in profit for any terrorist group in the Middle East, along with the horrific Saudi government. That, and the first two will slow down the rapid destruction of our planet.
And yet instead Greens almost act as a buffer for the main parties to not have to care about the environment and everyone else just goes for the typical "we'll be tough on terrorism." Like, yeah, no shit it's fucking terrorism, why not actually try and do something useful ffs. Just kind of wish the populace was more knowledgeable on issues of the environment and drugs. I realise that sounds condescending but the political news cycle spends so much time on fucking pointless shit, if you genuinely care about whether Ed Miliband 'looks right' you're a fucking idiot as far as I'm concerned.
