Do They Know It's Soccer Nerd Christmas
I can't quite remember who but someone else had the idea of doing an SNC cover of the Band Aid single a while back, and in the spirit of (**ahem**) inter-forum seasonal cheer and goodwill I'm up for making this happen this year if you guys are.
We're talking the original 1984 version (so no Dizzee Rascal hippity-hop mumbo jumbo funny business). The way I see it working is each person gets at least a line (more if there aren't enough people and multiple people on one line if somehow there are more than 17). Everyone sings the three chorus lines ("Do they know it's Christmastime at all?", "Feed the world" and "Let them know it's Christmastime") and I'll only need one vocal take for each. In case you need reminding:
1. It's Christmastime; there's no need to be afraid
2. At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
3. And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
4. Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime
5. But say a prayer to pray for the other ones
6. At Christmastime
7. It's hard, but when you're having fun
8. There's a world outside your window
9. And it's a world of dread and fear
10. Where the only water flowing
11. Is the bitter sting of tears
12. And the Christmas bells that ring there
13. Are the clanging chimes of doom
14. Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you
15. And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
16. The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
17. Oh, where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow
EVERYONE. Do they know it's Christmastime at all?
18. Here's to them, underneath that burning sun
EVERYONE. Do they know it's Christmastime at all?
EVERYONE. Feed the world
EVERYONE. Feed the world
EVERYONE. Feed the world
EVERYONE. Let them know it's Christmastime
EVERYONE. Feed the world
EVERYONE. Let them know it's Christmastime
In terms of how to get it to me you can just use the voice recorder on your phone. Save the files (a separate one for each line) in .wav format, upload to something like mediafire and PM me the link to the files. When recording it's best to do it somewhere quiet so you don't have too much background noise. For timings on your line (as in like vocal speed and cadence), the backing track I'm using is below so a good way to do it is have it palying in headphones whilst you're recording.
I can do a bit of basic manipulation of the sound files I get but ideally they'd sound as good as possible to begin with. As for style, that's up to you (obviously don't try to dribble into other people's lines. It's only meant as a bit of fun so it'll be interesting what people come up with.
To begin with just say if you're interested and let's say two weeks from now I'll close off entries and assign the lines. Ideally (please) get the finished files back to me ASAP after that. I'd probably need them all by the beginning of December as putting it all together will not be a quick job (and I work full time and will probably have a shit ton of other stuff to sort out too) plus I'll need to do some (very very basic) visuals for the video.
Hopefully it'll all be ready and up on Youtube by the 25th.
Peace out.
