Was just watching the press conference where Hodgson defended himself regarding reports he was forced to be there.
I really don't get why he won't just say why Kane was taking set pieces and what Sterling had done to merit inclusion in the Iceland game or at the very least what he thought he'd offer against them that others would not. If that was me I'd have sat there all day and at the very least tried to justify what I did. Is he waiting for Oprah Winfrey? Get Paxman on him asap.
I hope he gets back to doing what he does best: floating around Europe taking random jobs like some sort of lost member of The A-Team.
Anyway.... interim manager? Jesus wept, surely there's somebody, fucking anybody, who you could just hand the job to. Typical of the FA trying to assert some sort of superiority over the national team by suggesting it will take time to get the "right man for the job".
Serious question for anybody who read this far: Does anybody actually care who the England manager is? Like, does it really matter that much?
The job is a complete poisoned chalice, so much so that managers go from being the best man for the job to shite overnight. There are a finite amount of players to choose from and no matter what squad or team you pick somebody will criticise it before, during and after every game. Expectations are far, far, far too high, its 50 years since the last win and 25 years since England were any good. The Fifa ranking has been completely inaccurate for 20 years making them seem ten times better than they actually are to the average mong. No matter who they are you're gonna blame them in the end. And most importantly 99% of people actually do not really care about the national team and would rather see their club succeed. I doubt many Leicester fans really give a shit right now.
Yes, easy for me to say, but hey, we've had Steve Staunton and Brian Kerr in my lifetime but the expectations on us are "if we qualify, that'd be lovely", so you know... perspective.
tl;dr or gs;dc - summary: England = Shit.
