Arimtstead has had the first of her 3 missed drugs tests overturned so she will be allowed to compete at Rio, she's obviously one of the favourites to at least medal and a decent chance of gold. Her counsel was paid for by British Cycling.
Thoughts?
There is a normal sorta own country bias to think, ah well this was just a huge oversight and she just made mistakes or there are legitimate excuses etc. but let's be honest, if this wasn't a big name and quite popular GB athlete, there would be loads of suspicion.
How lackadaisical do you have to miss a 3rd competition testing when your Olympic hopes, in the prime of your career, depend on it?
I think whatever she achieves is gonna have a big ? next to it now.

BBC saying the three were:
"The first came at a World Cup event in Sweden on 20 August, 2015.
The second was "an administrative failure" by her on 5 October.
And the third was a missed test on 9 June this year following "an emergency change of plans due to a serious illness within her family"."
The third seems fair enough, the first is the one that's been overturned because it's been ruled that the tester didn't make a reasonable effort to track her down and she took the test first thing the next day. It's an interesting one but I guess you have to take it by their ruling. The second one is obviously the big question mark, and if they'd all been like that, I think people would be much more suspicious.

She also only questioned the first missed test after she'd failed the following two.
The system is horrible to live with, there's a BBC article with Tom Fordyce where he lived through it for a week. But. Everybody else manages it.
Glad that some Gb athletes are coming out and criticising her.

My first instinct was to put a ? next to Armitstead. The more I see the 'Daily Mail brigade' comment, the more I'm back on her side.
Edit: And now the more she keeps making comments and doing interviews, the more I'm wavering back towards putting the ? next to her again. She doesn't come across as very likeable.

Idk if it's the lack of any real build up meets, the relative lack of BBC coverage, following on from London or the stupid late start times but I'm really not arsed about this atm

I think part of it is how negative the build up has been with the doping scandal and the issues about Rio being ready (and the locals protesting), as well as the lack of actual competitive build up, even Channel 4 have done more for the Paralympics with just that advert that's basically on repeat and that doesn't start for a month.
And then there's the fact that last time it was here. Being in London in the build up in 2012, you could feel the excitement on the streets because it was everywhere.
All in all, feels underwhelming going into it but I expect that to change once it starts, afternoons and evenings sorted for the next couple of weeks.

Yeah tbf going into London everyone was a bit down and expected it to be shit and then that opening ceremony went and changed everything.
Aye Stu but there is daytime stuff, think Froome races in the afternoon tomorrow, it's mostly the track events that are midnight onwards.
Also, last time round BBC took on like thirty extra channels so there was literally no excuse not to be watching something, I watched so many different sports that I'd never bother with just because they were on when I was flicking through. Doubt I'll bother this time round if I have to fanny around online trying to find it at 1am.

Tbf I just watched Katie Taylor winning gold from 2012 and it's got me hyped. Time difference is a pain though

Froome about 3 minutes off the front in the cycling road race. Two of the front three crashed in the final descent and the third one got caught by two others in the last 1500m.
Adam Peaty, GB breaststroke swimmer, just smashed the 100m world record in the heats.

Nothing for us in a pretty grueling men's road race. Looked in good positions for a few times but got dropped or crashed.
Good morning in the swimming though, Peaty breaks WR. Miley & Willmott 4th & 5th into the final of 400m medley with a chance of a medal. James Guy didn't look great but finished 6th fastest so is into his final. Max Litchfield with an outside chance of a medal into his final too.
(edit: or what slimjim just said, haha)
