Couldn't get near him. Honestly do few players in the world who can do what Hazard just did.

Ah well. Good exercise in getting certain players on the pitch. Probably a shame they can’t get another in a months time, but it could be worse, that used to be our first choice back 5!

West Ham scored more goals in that game than they'll get for the rest of the season

Reckon since my first Chelsea game in 2002 the only song they’ve actually added to their repertoire is the Gerrard one. Proper boring set of fans with their songbook straight out of a league 2 team’s.
Anyway, Hazard’s quite good and outside of our first choices I don’t trust anyone at fullback cos the two who played tonight are terrible.

Our best player? That’s a stretch.
He won the ball high up the pitch well a few times second half, but his limitations on the ball hurt us again. We’ve gone past Clyne now as far as the first team is concerned.
I liked what I saw of Fabinho though. Can see why he hasn’t been starting also, but thought he grew into the game well once he started pressing and used the ball well enough. Probably keita’s best performance so far too. Will be surprised if you see them in the same midfield in a game that matters before the FA Cup 3rd though. But certainly look like they can get dipped in and out.
Fancy us Sunday. If we can limit Hazard to just one ridiculous moment. Big game for Jorginho; if we can get after him and knock him off his stride I think we’ll win. Azp (the right back) looks like he’s missing CB from what I’ve saw of him this year and the rest of the back line can be got at.

Clyne didn’t do nearly enough for me in a game where he had the clear advantage having that Emerson on his side. The few times he got into the final third he did nothing with the ball and it’s just really been the story of his 5 years here. I’d forgotten until Trent and Robertson came in that full backs are allowed to put a good cross in cos neither of those two who played last night can.
Clear standouts to me were Keita, Fabinho and Shaqiri. Even though Mignolet, despite having hands made of cold gravy, was decent. Still rather he never played again for us mind. And I think bits and pieces from that back 5 can work together. Lovren next to Van Dijk where he knows he’s the subordinate in that partnership and Matip next to either Van Dijk or Gomez as we saw on Saturday. But all of it together is just too much of an accident waiting to happen. Morata did the business on Lovren all night and even though it’s taken a worldie from Hazard to win it, I don’t think he gets that time and space against our strongest back 5.
Still dunno if that first goal was offside I haven’t watched the game since so I’ll have to check it out. Once that goal went in though, heads dropped, Henderson was back at the 6 shitting out of challenges and there’s our first defeat. I’m not too arsed, League Cup is a trophy but if it’s the only one you win in a season you’re not exactly calling it a success. Plus my seat allocation for the league cup was a joke. Row 83 in the upper main stand is practically a threat to low flying aircraft.

Rudiger has had a good season so far but other than that none of the others look great in terms of shape. Alonso can definitely be got at defensively and he gets very little help on that side so I'd expect Salah to have a bit of fun there. This is the big test for Jorginho. It's the kind of game you'd want Kante in his best position and he has been pushed out of there for Jorginho instead. Obviously when we have the ball Jorginho is absolutely key but this'll be the test on the other side of it because I expect him to be targeted by Liverpool as well.

Also if there was a version of football where the aim of the game was to come as close as possible to scoring without actually scoring, Morata would be incredible

I’ve never really seen Morata’s value because I’ve never seen him live until last night and the cameras don’t tend to capture him literally occupying our centre halves for the entire game. I mean this in the best way but he reminds me of Glenn Murray. Every long ball and clearance he’s going to contest and make sure the defenders don’t get time to bring the ball down. More effective when Hazard came on because that’s going to be your outlet every time, but our defenders couldn’t deal with him. In a sense it almost seems that scoring would detract from his game a bit, he’d be brilliant in a front two with someone like Hazard running in behind.
