As with most threads of this nature, these best ever performances look like slightly decreasing into merely good ones. Though I guess 'best performances seen live' is subjective. Forgot to mention in mine, closest I've ever saw to an opposition player getting a standing ovation at SJP (without them having any obvious ties to us that us). tbf that performance was the best I've ever seen from a Liverpool team, even better then the thrashing we gave Madrid later on that season. Gerrard and Lucas were on another level against yous

In terms of goals, was probably Stern John years ago when he scored a hat trick at home to Hull, volleyed the 3rd one in from about 25 yards, was boss that day.
One I hate admitting, but when Pompey beat us 4-1 in the FA Cup when we were in League One, Jamie O'Hara ran the show that day for them, he was miles ahead of everyone else on the pitch.

And now look at him. Useless piece of shit.
As for best performance i've seen live, probably Murray in the Play off final 2003. He was fantastic that day, saved a penalty as well as numerous important saves. Shame he got injured and barely played again.

Gareth Bale vs Inter Milan at WHL.
Remember that game like it was yesterday. Made the Inter defence look like a Sunday league team all by himself. Will probably never see performances like that again anytime soon.
Miss those CL Nights, would love to go see an away game in the CL if we ever qualify again.
My Unlce got me a ticket to that game as a late birthday present as well, best late present ever.

Michael Carrick (Swansea v Utd 2011)
He had an outstanding reading of the game that night. Knew exactly where to go to intercept, to set up a chance and who to pass the ball too quickly. He somehow made himself available everywhere.

Not been to enough games to see anything that would stand out to most of you.
Santi Cazorla vs Wigan last year was pretty class, assisted all four of the goals.
I vaguely remember seeing a hyped up Jon Stead for Huddersfield kept quiet at Scunthorpe where Peter Beagrie tore them to pieces in a 6-2 win.

Not only is it quite subjective but it is also bound to be tinged with emotion. Happy childhood memories, battles against the drop, title winners...context means a lot when I think of the best things that I have seen at a ground. To me, that's the fun of these lists...I want to see other people's favourite memories.

Lassana Diarra vs anyone at Fratton Park. He deserved MOTM in 90% of the games he played for us that I saw. Vitoria Guimares in the UEFA Cup a particular highlight.
When we beat United 2-1 ages ago Primus was all over Rooney. Gladiatorial performance from him that day. Finding it difficult to remember many more, had so much guff over the last five years and they seems to play even worse when I actually go nowadays haha. A few others I wanna say but wasn't there to witness them live. Todorov vs Bradford in our promotion season, Owusu-Abeyie in the FA Cup at St Mary's, OGS four goal cameo vs Nottingham Forest.

Jack Lester at home to Rotherham in our promotion season. Hat trick in a 5-0 win, we absolutely decimated them.

Thomas Sorensen - 0-0 at home to Villa in... 06 I think, made a string of great saves including one from a beautiful looking lob from Tainio.

Diarra is still the best player I've seen put on a Pompey shirt, that man just oozed class. Was that the 2-1 win at Fratton Park when Rio scored the OG? Primus had Rooney in his pocket that game. Thierry Henry always played well against us but one match in particular was when Arsenal dicked us 5-1 at FP in the FA cup. The man was on fire. He also said it was one of his favourite places to go too because of the atmosphere we once had.

Who remember when we beat Chelsea 1-0 in 2009? King and Woodgate were unreal that game

Gareth Bale v Lyon
Scored those 2 free kicks. Remember turning to my mate as we got that 92nd minute fk and just knowing it would go in. Scenes.
Taye Taiwo v Inter Milan
Pre season game in 2006 I think. Bossed Inter's midfield and scored both goals including a 30 yard screamer. Remember my dad taking a photo of the scoreboard at 2-1 up and saying "That's the only chance we'll get to see that"
This has just made me realise how dire most of the matches I've been to have been.
