Full compliment of games this weekend as we move in October, starting with Everton at home against Crystal Palace. Everton's good start lasted for all of 5 games they reverted to true form while Palace just keep plodding on.
Moving onto Saturday lunchtime, Swansea are home to Liverpool and it's not somewhere we've particularly been good in the past. We're in good form though, at least, so when we lose 2-0 to a Neil Taylor brace we can go back to trying to finish in the top 4 and put down any title talk.
The first 3 o'clock kick off (alphabetically ofc) sees Hull at home to Chelsea. And give Hull their dues, they've been tough opposition at home having beaten Leicester and held off United for about 94 minutes. Another team with aspirations to avoid the drop is Chelsea, who know they face an uphill struggle here, especially with shite like Courtois, Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard in their team.
Sunderland v West Brom is the James McClean derby. If I had my way this game would be played on or as close to Remembrance Day as humanly possible just so all the Brexiters could get fucking livid when he doesn't put a plastic flower on. But it's in October so there's really nothing interesting about it.
Watford and Bournemouth were definitely surprise packages last season, with the Hornets not having been in the league for about ten years and Bournemouth still being a team you imagine plays in League One. Etienne Capoue is what United paid £89m for.
West Ham will lose 4-2 to Boro.
Sunday and we have a midday start with Manchester United entertaining Stoke. United played on Thursday evening, already setting up an excuse for Mourinho, and looked pretty dire against Chernobyl reactor 4, so it's fortunate they're playing against the victims of the Chernobyl disaster itself, who I'm sure you're all gutted are doing shite this season, eh lads? Lads?
Champions League winners 2016/17 Leicester welcome Europa League Round of 16 losers 2016/17 Southampton to the Des Walkers Stadium at the unholy time of 2:15 in what is actually my pick for game of the week, if we ignore the potential of the other 2:15 game.
Tottenham and City brings back good memories of that first City title (the one where we finished 8th in the same season) because of the masterclass they put on at White Hart Lane when they won, I think, 5-1 in that Dennis the Menace kit. Obviously Tottenham are better than that now but City are as well, really better, even if they can't beat League 2 opposition in midweek. Keep an eye out for Andy Jay who will be watching his team play City for the second time this week. Partisanship.
Finally, Turf Moor is a tricky place to go so far this season. That's my statement and I'm sticking by it. So Arsenal will do well to carve out a win on Sunday, relying on their big guns (urgh) to overrun Burnley, who aren't pushovers by any stretch of the imagination, with rumours that the ghost of Graham Alexander has been a key influence in the Burnley midfield at home this season.
