Nice to have new tracks but Mugello = no overtaking, Imola = no overtaking and Portimao = 0 overtaking, unless they use the first chicane.

Wonder if it bothers Bottas that he’s only safe at Mercedes because he’s not good enough to actually beat Hamilton across a full season or if he’s just happy knowing it’s mutually beneficial for himself and Mercedes.
It reminds me of Webber with Seb or Rubens with Schumacher. The Merc has easily been the best car for seven straight years and the 2016 season is the only time he’s even been under threat and it was only relative reliability that stopped him winning that season.
It probably doesn’t bother him at all like. He’s getting wins and points he’d never get at any other team but I always wonder what it’s like for a driver in a team who is so clearly second fiddle.

I think every other driver on the grid would kill to be in his position tbf - and unlike some teams it does appear that Mercedes allow their drivers to race and don't have a defacto number 1 driver before the season has begun.
But yeah he's not been much cop of late and given its only likely to be the other Merc that can challenge Hamilton, it's a shame he's so far off.

Oh my god they’ve fucked it.
Lmao the graphic lied. I thought they’d both had the same issue then.

I haven't felt a fucking panic like that since, well, yesterday evening.

That was incredible. I went down to tell my dad what had just happened to Bottas and as he turned it on Hamilton was practically doing wheelies with how his rear had gone and then the tyre went.
Verstappen and RB must be kicking themselves. There won’t be many freebies given out this year and that was one. 29 seconds made up on the final lap. If that puncture happens one corner earlier Hamilton is lucky to make a podium.

Is that 3 out of 4 races now Gasly has finished above Albon?

Weird how the same thing seemed to happen to both of then in the RB #2 seat. Is verstappen just that good or something more going on. Gasly has looked great everywhere but the red bull which is a shame.

I think there’s just a lot more pressure on the RB young drivers programme now with them having had a period of insane success, then producing multiple time race winners in Ricciardo and Max. But Sainz never had the right timing to make the step up and everyone else since has felt the pressure, including Albon at the minute. But they have to stick with him for now and invest in him. He’s not as good as Max but they can’t have a revolving door in that second seat between him, Gasly and Kvyat.

I think it's a combination of things, Max and the car have both developed together in tandem for 4 years now, it's going to take any driver a while to drive the car with that same confidence, and Red Bull haven't exactly been patient with anyone so far.
Obviously Max is also probably the most talented driver on the grid right now, so even with equal experience in the car, he's likely still going to be a couple of tenths up on his teammate.

Yeah it's a bit of everything, Max is probably the second quickest driver on the grid, and he has a really unique driving style that the Red Bull has been designed towards for the last four years. It would be logical of the junior team followed that same design ethos but they haven't been, so it's nearly impossible to step up and drive to your ability in an entirely different car set up.
Doesn't help also that Helmut Marko is a helmet.

Just hope my boy Gasly get's back in the big leagues. A bit crap this year is just going to be another merc/hamilton walk over but i'm happy to just call this one a practice for next year anyway and hope someone challenges then.

Next year’s probably going to be the same anyway with the regulation changes not coming into effect until 2022. Interesting to see what happens with RP if they can continue developing their car with Vettel potentially coming in for next year. Interesting for them to see who is dropped. They lose a massive amount of sponsor money from Perez but Stroll is literally the boss’s son (and massively underrated as a driver, btw). Whether Vettel has the same pull he had 3/4 years ago with attracting money into that team is a question of itself as well.
