Anyone against VAR after the entertainment it bought there is mental.
Also Zabaleta talking about players rolling around on the floor with Drogba next to him is fantastic.

Lineker and Shearer have their proper mong moments. Trying to argue against that Ronaldo penalty like it isn’t absolute stonewall? Just going on and on about VAR, shut the fuck up man

Linekar making a reasonable point that VAR has gotten majority of decisions right, Alan Shearer says “not based on this ref”... yeah but this ref has fucked up, but overall it works you fucking twat
Also: “VAR will take away the discussions down the pub” was the most ridiculous argument against it for so many reasons but number one was always PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS MOAN AND HAVE SUBJECTIVE OPINIONS ON FOOTBALL
This World Cup has been amazing I love it

I do wonder if the interpretation of handball has been changed because Australia, Saudi Arabia and Iran all got very similar penalties given and 2 of those were by using VAR.
I doubt 3 sets of VAR officials and 3 refs have all got it wrong. Maybe if your arm is away from your body it's a penalty now?

Definite pen for Ronaldo, I thought a yellow for the 'elbow' was about right and as Chappy said I think there's been a decision from up above about handballs in the box. Not the first innocuous handball so far.

Morocco’s reaction has been more than a little pathetic like, thinking they’ve been like robbed when it was a spot on decision and none of them have actually seen it.

Pundits going on about VAR and not about anything else that happened in the match is getting really annoying. On RTÉ, Dietmar Hamann said Spain's legitimate goal shouldn't have counted because it shouldn't be used for marginal decisions (like an offside goal in the last minute to decide a game is a marginal decision...). Liam Brady lost the plot, talking about how FIFA conspired to stop him getting to the World Cup, in favour of the big teams (probably some vague truth in that), but a strange tangent that involved VAR and how it was corrupt. Shearer talking shite as well.
VAR is technology. Referees are human, they make mistakes. With VAR, they make less mistakes. My only issues with it are people expecting it to be used for every decision, because the game would come to a standstill if they did that. It's used to help the referee, and should remain at his discretion. They're not going to get 10 out of 10 decisions right, because the rules of the game are unclear enough that two people can watch the same incident and have different opinions, but if they get 8 out of 10 tough decisions right, they're onto something.

For some reason mistakes made by referees under the old system are apparently more ok than ‘mistakes’ made by VAR which I really struggle to understand. I’m convinced the referees have been given some sort of directive when it comes to handballs in the box, that unless your hand is in a completely natural position it doesn’t matter if you’re very close when the ball hits you, it’s going to be a pen. Not that I agree with that but if they’re at least consistent with that it’s not quite as bad. Number of people just desperate to moan about something because it’s new is ridiculous though, it’s clearly been good, just all the journalists and ex-pros who couldn’t stop telling people how it would ruin the tournament etc can’t stop falling over each other to scream I TOLD YOU SO at the smallest hint of controversy.
Also seen this posted a lot, it’s not even that close to being completely out. Apparently it’s a rule that you have to take the corner from the side it went out though? Daft rule if so.

It's a shame, really. That was a cracking group (Spain was solid, Ronaldo was brilliant, Iran was inches away from winning it and even Morrocco played well enough to win it in spite of only coming away with a point) and here we sit only talking about VAR.

#FreeBTS only just seen your post but this VAR shit has been fucking me right off, to the point I can't be arsed discussing it with people who are against it. Like you said it's every little fucking thing related to VAR that they want to criticise but for me it's simple, are the refs now getting more right than they were before? It's pretty obvious that they are. Loads of times I've noticed people going crazy over VAR because the ref has gave a penalty when they thought it shouldn't be but the reason they thought it shouldn't be is because they don't even know the rules and they're criticising professional referees who have looked at it multiple times. Yeah they're getting some things wrong, mainly the handballs but as I said earlier I'm almost certain they've changed the interpretation of handball for this tournament. Would be better for them if they came out and explained it though. As for the Spain corner, I think the angle makes it looks like it could be out but if it was in line I'm pretty sure it's not out. VAR can not review corners and one of the criticisms is that VAR is happening too often! But now they want it for corners as well! What next? Throw ins? Encroachment?
