really don't know what Martinez was trying to achieve with 3 deep midfielders in front of a back 3 with absolutely no wing support Fellaini has been pretty much playing as a second striker when in possession and Chadli like a winger... was probably unclear, yeah chadli and hazard are playing out wide, but Martinez must know not to expect anything from them defensively. Whole formation was just really crowded in the middle and couldnt go anywhere. Looks a lot better now with Mertens on and Fellaini pushing forwards

Would you not say it was working but for Fellaini to fall asleep at a set piece? Pretty even game before that for me. Matuidi plays inside left, lets Chadli get forward. mbappe plays from right, so Vertonghen stays back. Thought but for a couple of slips either side they were largely cancelling each other out. ange postecoslamp

De Bruyne has completely disappeared in a big game again. Exactly the same for City when they played us in Europe.

And Fellaini has been Fellaini. Just arguing the point I think belgium’s set up has been fine, if not as effective as against Brazil. (Largely due to France being a lot more boring than Brazil)

although saying that he was brilliant against Brazil, think it helps that they were more offensive in that game than France are gonna be with a midfield of Pogba, Kante and Matuidi.

Dembele just felt like an extra body with no real purpose or space, much better served with Mertens.

Really really think without Hazard's performance today Belgium wouldn't have had a chance to speak of. He's such a big game player, really kept them in this single handedly.

I doubt I’ve ever seen a better or more intelligent dribbler than Hazard.
