Go on then, remind us why we should be positive about this world cup campaign over our previous? We will do better next time because Loftus-Cheek will have 2 Ballon D'ors by then. Be fair, there are reasons to be positive. Won our first penalty shoot-out in a World Cup which was a massive mental stumbling block. Entire atmosphere around the team and the media has been a huge improvement. The players aren't coming back to scapegoating and abuse which gives them a great building block. I do think people have massively over-egged how much of an achievement this is, or rather, how good this team have been. But a World Cup semi final isn't to be sniffed at regardless of who you have to beat to get there. Previous England teams would have lost in those games.

Ah yes, the penalty shootout is a massive monkey off our back, tbf. I think we would have gotten this far with our previous squads bar the Hodgson-era. We have over-achieved this tournament. It does matter we did not beat a 'big' national team. We haven't done so since 2002 and that was in the group stages. If you want to improve or make that next step, that has to be done. Otherwise, we will never be seen as a threat. Saying all this, i am honestly hopeful for the future though. The groundwork laid for our home-grown players seems to be working using the success of our youth team in international tournaments. Hopefully we will see it comes to fruition on the big stage.

But that's the point, in the Hodgson era or the McLaren era, we lost to the likes of Sweden or Colombia; yes, the teams we've beaten in this tournament are the teams you'd expect us to. But that's actually an improvement on previous years.

I wanted us to beat Croatia, and give France a hard time in the final if not win, that actually shows that we are one of the best nation in the world. And if we did face Germany, would you really backed us to win? Anyways, if most of the nation think it's a success, then it's great for us.

but we didnt face Germany because they were worse than us
who cares about ifs and buts?
if the Lampard goal stood vs Germany it would have been a different game
it didnt though, we lost 4-1 and everyone laughs about how shit we were
you can only beat whats in front of you, which we did. everyone thought we'd go out to Colombia cos it was a harder game than Japan, but we ended up winning our first ever World Cup shoot out. we scored our most ever goals in a World Cup tournament. we united the entire nation (fuck the scousers) and everyone was backing the national side again. pubs were as busy as they've been in years. we had big screens in major places completely rammed with people. it was an incredible tournament for the belief and dreaming of the country again
yes we fell short, we had the youngest side in the tournament and they played incredibly well to make a first semi final in my life time and I'm 30 in just over 2 years!
seriously is nothing to moan about in this tournament.

Tbf overachieving to such an extent that people foolishly believe you should win the whole thing and then failing to do so is pretty spursy.
