Harry Winks visiting an old people's home in the Spurs documentary is classic telly.

thoroughly enjoyed that Sheffield United Wolves game. Jiminez is one of my favourite players this past couple years He's class isn't he, doesn't have a poor touch in him and his movement and finishing have both been first class for Wolves I think he's the jewel in the Wolves crown, moreso than Neves or Traore for me. I think they're finishing in the top 6 this season

I have been watching a lot of classic english football recently. Matches, highlights, interviews etc from 2000-2010.
Is it fair to say that we grew up on the golden age of the premier league and english football in general? Perhaps it is nostalgia but looking at it objectively I believe it is hard to argue otherwise.
It's hard to see the caliber of teams, players and managers ever being matched in my opinion.
Watching it all back has made me recollect how much I hated Henry as a 13 year old. But for all the right reasons. What an incredible player.

I mean, the top four points totals ever in the premier league all came in the past 3 seasons, so....

Klopp and Guardiola have taken English football to another level, similar to how managers in the past have done. The City and Liverpool teams of the past three years are an absolute joy.

I think it was the golden era in the sense that there were 4 teams who could feasibly win the title any year (even if it really ended up being the same 2/3) and there was an English team in the Champions League final every year from 2005 until 2012 (save for 2010).
But I would also put it to you that the City and Liverpool teams from 2018 would beat any other team in English football history on a day when everyone is on form. English teams don’t do as well in Europe now not because they’re worse but because the rest of Europe has gotten better and surpassed them. Once Messi came into his own and Ronaldo left English football sort of got left behind.
I definitely preferred watching football back then though. I dunno if it’s nostalgia or what but I used to love watching a Sunday afternoon game on Sky commentated by Tyler and Gray before Tyler lost his passion for life and then a few days later watching a Champions League game on ITV. Nothing fundamentally has changed, just channels and personnel but they were the halcyon days for me.

I was more into club football back then so it's a nostalgia element for me definitely, there was a routine around watching the matches at college and that, football was part of my every day. It's just not as much any more even though I still have an interest in it obviously. I think I'd mentioned in here before that Hazard was really the only reason I was still interested in Chelsea for a good few years there, and now it's to see how Lampard gets on and Pulisic was giving me some Hazard feelings last season as well. But it's not the same intensity, I used to be in a foul mood if Chelsea lost and now I just shrug.
Football has changed a lot in 20 years (shockingly) so it's a little redundant comparing the teams now imo. Liverpool and City of the past three years are definitely another level on from what we've seen before but I preferred the teams from the 00's, again probably because I was more into club football at the time.
A random one from back then but I think the Ancelotti Chelsea team is insanely underrated. Everyone talks about the first Mourinho Chelsea side but I think Ancelotti's double-winning side was better.

Some of his movement which just opens things up for other Wolves players to get a chance is just brilliant, I could watch him every week. I'm surprised there hasn't been any chat of him being picked up by one of the CL clubs, I think he'd improve pretty much every side

There’s a top 6 now.... was a top 4 back then.
Wolves, Leicester, Everton. The premier league has never spent so much money.
Mike nailed it. And Conor expanded. It’s nostalgia. Everything used to be better back in the day. We’re just getting old.

I think the relative purchasing power of Premier League clubs, especially those mid-table and below, compared to equivalent European clubs has definitely changed the dynamic of the league

Yeah I don't think it's as simple as looking at points totals, just means that these teams are more dominant than they were back then. Saying that, just from the eye test I think these 2 could hang with any of them.
Arsenal from like 1999-2004 are still the best team I've seen live, they used to terrorise us every single year it was stupid and we were decent against top sides at the Riverside as well. Think they beat us 6-1, 4-0 x2 and a couple of closer games. Henry and Pires just did whatever the fuck they wanted to.

The introduction of Man City in this guise alone has made the PL tougher. Then there is Spurs and what they’ve been able to do the past 5 years or so. The players Everton and Wolves in particular can attract. You can’t just write that off. I’m not saying now is definitely better, Mike said he couldn’t see an argument why 00-10 wasn’t the best era. I gave an argument. 00-10 who won the league? United, Arsenal and Chelsea? Is that it? Genuine question off the top of my head 10-20 United, Chelsea, City, Leicester and Liverpool.
