x.com/skysportspl/status/1690789653186527232?s=46am I missing something here? It’s almost like there’s always got to be a whinge or controversy because I’d say what the fuck is he supposed to do there, ball travels very quickly from a very short distance and his hands and arms are tucked into his body, would have been a crazy decision, never mind an overturn also does a goal bound shot actually hold any relevance here? Genuine question btw because I don’t know, but if it doesn’t then there’s no way there’s the same outcry if something like that happens from just like a normal pass.

Acting like Liverpool have been robbed of either a pen or a red card is absolutely mental. Both were perfectly fine decisions and would have been very harsh if they’d went the other way. I mean literally by the definition of the rules both of them could have been given without much of an argument. On the red card, it's dangerous play. He's in the air at head height with studs up. He pulls out enough to save him but it absolutely could have been given. On the penalty, it meets every single requirement for a penalty. His arm is in an unnatural position, it hits him outside of the silhouette of his body, and it travels a distance to him. It doesn't matter if he doesn't know anything about it, that isn't the law - intent doesn't matter. It would have been unfortunate but I really don't see how they haven't given it as a penalty given some of the other handballs that get given.

On the red card, you’ve literally explained how it isn’t a red card because of the action he’s taken in pulling out? Silly to go charging in like he did but no way is that a red. On the penalty, obviously we just disagree but to say ‘it travels a distance to him’ is just plain misrepresenting the situation, it travels about 2 yards at great pace? Would also say I don’t think it’s an unnatural position, unless footballers are meant to just walk around with their hands plastered to their sides now. Even on the video you can see Silva and Diaz with their hands in similar positions. Does it even hit him outside the silhouette of his body? Looks like it could easily just hit his chest to me anyway. Saying it meets ‘every single requirement for a penalty’ is just wrong, sorry.

On another note taking Salah off with 15 to go for a 17 year old was certainly a choice

I didn’t mind it. He was good first half and then probably had about three touches in the second and didn’t pose a threat at all. Doak is direct so in theory could’ve just gone at Colwill but we still couldn’t retain possession for two minutes

It’s Salah! Once Elliott came on Liverpool started looking a bit more threatening but Doak wasn’t really involved at all. Just seemed crazy early to take Salah off to me.

"He pulls out enough to save him" is key - he could have gone in straight legged. I still think those usually get given as red cards for dangerous play. On the penalty it looked like it travelled much further than two yards so I'd have to see it back. It's unnatural in that his lower arm is up whilst his upper arm isn't. Right, seen it again; It travels for a fair old distance before potentially taking a nick off of Diaz (Sky say so but I can't see it)? But that barely changes the direction of the ball. Whilst his elbows are by his side, his hands are up and away from his body - essentially by the silhouette argument he's made his body bigger by having his arm away from the outline of where it should be and that's why I think it's handball.

Thought that was alright in the end. Bit disappointing not to have won it after making or nearly making so many big chances in the first half an hour, but a draw at Chelsea isn't bad at all.
Enjoyed watching Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, they look a clear step up on last years midfield. Szoboszlai looks very raw, but I think we'll have a lot of fun watching him develop. Obviously need someone to sit for them, hopefully Thiago and Bajcetic aren't too far away and one of them can fill in for now.
Go and beat Bournemouth and that's a perfectly fine start to the season.

When you guys were talking about a red card I thought you meant Enzo Fernández pushing his head towards Jota.
If Jota goes down holding his face Enzo absolutely gets sent off. Instead, he stands his ground and gets booked.

It was refreshing to see us have so little of the ball yesterday and only concede one considering how poor we’ve looked defensively. I also think on the other hand that’s the best time to play Chelsea all season because they’re a brand new team with a very good manager who are only going to get stronger, both in terms of what they have and the additions they’re going to make.
I think we need to work on our buildup considerably though. Having all the forwards is great but they’re always trying something and we’re playing a bit too direct at times and the ball isn’t sticking. There was a period of about 5 minute yesterday where we didn’t get near the ball, until we did and Anthony Taylor tackled Szoboszlai.
I’m glad we ended up with him and not someone else though. He’s going to be brilliant.

United look like they could use a new midfielder too here.

All I'm seeing from these new rules so far is that officials are becoming even more untouchable.
Also, United look fucking awful and utterly reliant on counter attacks.

Gomes, Nunes, Cunha and Neto all look excellent.
They just haven’t got a goal between them.
