Has anyone ever made their own sushi before? I'm watching Masterchef Australia at the minute and there was an insane sushi challenge there the other night which has me craving it big time. I'd like to give it a go in terms of making it myself but it seems fucking complicated for such a simple looking dish. If anyone has any tips or anything, be good to hear! For today I'm gonna have baked salmon with spuds though Don't try and be generous with the filling, and use an extremely sharp knife to cut it.

Yep. Made a winter veg stew the other year actually and it was awesome. Stu's pretty simple (so's the dish), just throw whatever in the same stock recipe and it should work.

What kinda veg do you use though? Was gonna have carrot, onion, celery - wasn't sure what else to put in to beef it up (hohoho)

Maybe even raw beetroot but I think that's a pain to cook. Edit: Courgette as well. And if you're totally stuck, small pasta can go in well but you're heading towards pistou territory there.

Fuck, going through this thread alongside ordering the thug kitchen cookbook I've decided I'm fully gonna blast my cooking skills when I get back to Uni on Friday
Probably ended up making dinner for myself (as in making something decent from scratch) maybe 4 times in the 2 months I was in Sheffield before Christmas because I have one of those housemates that thinks she's the only person in the world that ever cooked, so would just take over whatever was going on in the kitchen

I can never be arsed cooking while I'm over here. At home, love it, everything's dead simple we've got whatever I could possibly need to make stuff. Here, I've got a few shitey spices and everything's gas which I've never had before, we've always had an electric cooker and oven in our house so I feel like I'm gonna burn the flat down. Can't wait to flex my culinary muscles in the next few weeks.
I was the same as you in uni though Davey, one of my flatmates was some posh girl from Bristol (?!) who tended to look down her nose at two scouse lads, one from the Wirral and a black Portuguese so she sort of just dominated the kitchen area. All I ever had time for was to cook a frozen pizza cos anything that took more than 15 minutes was futile, she'd be in there like a flash. Don't think she trusted us. Slag.

Made a cauliflower pizza at the weekend, obviously not as nice as the real thing but not a bad replacement when you're eating healthy.
