Just finished The Last of Us 2, really good, not as good as the first yes but that’s hardly a critique. Was a bit pissed at the massive side quest in the middle of the game but that actually ended up being one of the best parts, seeing how it all unfolded. I really liked Abby’s character, massive overreaction to her imo but that’s hardly surprising. Slight issues with the AI (enemies are inexcusably stupid at times, I was playing on the middle difficulty, does it get much harder on a higher one?) and I dunno, was maybe expecting a ‘bigger’ end to the game? When it ended I was kind of like is that it? Couldn’t really say it’s a fun game, it’s relentlessly bleak, didn’t think there were the same lighter moments the first game had either. Incredible story though obviously. Might elaborate on some of these points later I’m writing on my phone and don’t trust myself not to fuck up spoiler tags.
On another note if anyone wants to buy the game off me let me know, will stick it on eBay but I’d rather sell to someone I know at a decent price.

Too much water on this Fortnite update. But the addition of quick challenges and punch cards is good

I've finished it and I'm fucked up by it and a little pissed at the game but it's one of those experiences that'll stick with you. It's relentlessly bleak which is probably where my issues with it lie, but it's brilliant at what it does. I really liked Abby and playing as her tbh, the different weapons and that story kept it interesting and kept it from becoming stale imo. I honestly can't wrap my head around people just hating on the game for the stuff we've mentioned earlier, like you can be unhappy with that main decision early on in the game but it goes so far beyond that with what Ellie goes on to do, what the game *forces* you to do as Ellie and Abby both, and the relationships that you see fleshed out imo. Genuinely can't understand a lot of that negative reaction based on that one thing. It's also testament (imo) to the storytelling and the game as a whole that I could see heaps of DLCs or even a part 3 based on conflicts or characters in that Abby section that I'd be more than happy to play. I agree with Arwelt on the last page in that Joel wasn't a hero, but I disagree with *why* he saved Ellie. I don't think it was a selfish, for Joel, decision, at least not completely. I think he saved her because he thought *she* deserved a chance to live. And I think that's what this whole sequel is wrestling with, or what Ellie is wrestling with. She doesn't believe she deserves that life, and the final scene where she has that conversation with Joel on the porch, she says it again "my life was supposed to mean something". Joel believes it does mean something, Ellie doesn't, at least until the very end where she doesn't kill Abby (the flashback being Joel on the porch instead of bloodied and dying is the indicator of that change in Ellie's mind imo). The whole story is Ellie going on this revenge mission but she has so many opoprtunities to turn back and live a life of love with Dina, but she can't. Joel wanted her to live that life.
Not so say he wasn't saving her from a selfish POV as well, but I think it was more than that like I say.

I'm currently 150 hours into The Witcher 3 and just starting the dlc, what a game. I don't know why i've never played it before, i've had it downloaded for about two years.

Ok I've read one theory on a tiny detail that I missed in TLOU2 that makes me feel a little better about the bleakness: {SPOILER}When Ellie goes off to find and kill Abby for the last time, she's not wearing the bracelet from Dina. But when she comes back to the farm for the very last scene, she is wearing it. The theory suggests she's already been back to Jackson and reconciled with Dina - it also makes sense because she isn't calling out looking for anyone at the farm, she just walks in.
I completely missed that and had just assumed she had lost absolutely everything and was just gonna wander for the rest of her days.

I completely missed that and had just assumed she had lost absolutely everything and was just gonna wander for the rest of her days. {SPOILER}During the first farm scene you can find a letter from Dina's parents saying that they are always welcome to return to Jackson and live with them if they ever want to. As you say, due to the bracelet you can either assume that Ellie has already been to Jackson to reconcile with Dina, or is wearing the bracelet again because she's now heading to Jackson for the first time but is ultimately feeling hopeful for their relationship. Either way it's a good ending for Ellie and emphasises her ending as her being able to look forward rather than backwards, letting go of her trauma and having hope for her future life.
I finished the game about a week ago but have just been trying to digest everything. It was an absolutely incredible experience once again and the more time you have to take it all in the better the game becomes, is right up there with the first one for me. Just another feat of incredible story telling and once again you become so invested in all the characters. It is a mentally exhausting game, due to content and length - I always felt like I needed a rest after playing a session. That's not even a criticism though it points again to how immersive the game is and how you seem to go through all the experiences of the characters every step of the way.
They made some brave decisions for this game, playing as Abby after she killed Joel particularly, but it completely paid off due to the strength of the writing and storytelling. The way they handled Joel's death and the timing of it really kick started the themes of the games though. The suddenness and brutality of it had you feeling like Ellie did in that moment, angry and just wanting revenge. But by the end of the game you don't want revenge anymore, you want the characters to move forward and have a hopeful ending. As people have said, it's not a revenge story, it's about people dealing with trauma and how ultimately there are no true villains to the story and that everyone is the hero from their own perspective. From that, you see the futility of the cycle of violent revenge and how it takes more from a person that it heals. This is why I feel people who wanted Abby to die at the end kind of missed the point, Ellie didn't save Abby at the end, she saved herself - the game is constantly showing you that trying to heal trauma with more trauma does not give people the freedom they are looking for (Abby still having nightmares even after killing Joel, they only stop once she saves and cares for Lev etc.)
I could write forever about the story but there so much detail you can go into it'd fill a book. The gameplay itself was again brilliant, liked some of the new weapons like the trap mines. I also found this game way creepier than the first. In the first game the only bit that used to fuck me up was when Joel is separated from Ellie and when he turns on a generator all hell breaks loose and you get chased by a mini army and a Bloater. In this game there are so many moment I'd be shitting my pants about having to face again haha. The Stalkers in particular in this one, just absolutely fuck those guys.
Don't understand the hate that has come at this game from people who haven't played it. If you truly loved the first game I don't get how some out of context info could make you suddenly doubt the skill of the writers. Play the game, if you don't like it still at least you've got an informed opinion. I don't understand how people can be so angry about something they don't even have surface level knowledge on. They've robbed themselves of an amazing gaming experience, one that, for me won't be matched for a very long time.
But yeah, in case you hadn't guessed. I really fucking liked it.

It was like playing a full on horror game at times. Proper relief whenever I got through an infected heavy area and got to fight people again lol.

yeah absolutely fuck off stalkers. I was so proud of myself at one point with them: When you're making your way down the skyscraper with Abby and Lev and you go off to find a gasmask for Lev. When you finally get into the room that has the mask there's a stalker waiting outside the door for you, I tried listen mode and there was like a faint light but I wasn't sure, threw a pipe bomb anyways and boom. It caused a stir with all the other infected as well which helped me navigate my way back to Lev. But I think that's actually the only time I handled them well lol. see the first time you meet them in the game, holy good fuck I was terrified
