Can't believe we didn't have a thread dedicated to the second greatest American sport about. www.nba.com/Website, similar to the NFL side of things they put highlights of all the games, and because there are so many games in a season, you tend to see quite a few spectacular plays on a nightly basis. They have top 10 play videos that sometimes centre around just one night, which is brilliant. Anyway, with regards the actual season, the Indiana Pacers currently lead the East and Oklahoma City Thunder lead the West. The Pacers are looking incredible, even in a less-than-competitive conference, but even though my Heat have been greatly underperforming, still in second only three games back from Indiana. Obviously the West has the better teams with any one of the Clippers, Rockets, Thunder and Spurs all with a realistic chance of making, and winning, the Finals, with the West's 9th seed having as many wins this year as the East's 3rd. The West also dominate the individual leaders, with Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant being points leader for the fourth time in five years and also having the best efficiency up to this point. On the other hand, Carmelo Anthony holds the season high for points with 62 and has been at his best again this season, after being points leader in 2012-13 for the Knicks. If you haven't paid attention to basketball for the last few years, no, the Lakers aren't good any more.

Pacers or Heat will take it again this year. The Thunder or Spurs will be the team repping the west. I think the West suffers from it's superiority to the East in terms of challenge, because it essentially means the top teams in the West can coast a lot of conference games. Over the lengthy NBA regular season it'll add up, and be a huge help come the post-season.
Other Talking points:
- Dwight Howard is a bitch. - Derrick Rose is the next 'player who would've been a great'. - The Spurs ability to consistently be a top team with their aging roster is almost as impressive as their ability to choke in the finals. - Kobe should reconsider returning, given the Lakers current state, he's only going to damage his legacy. - The Clippers being the new bosses in LA is just weird. - Linsanity was the most bullshit thing ever. - Dwight Howard is a bitch.

Agree. Agree. Agree. Really don't rate any of their younger players either. Definitely agree. They're embarrassing to watch and Kobe at his prime would struggle to get them winning games. Agree, but they have such a strong core of players. DeAndre Jordan stepping up this year and Blake becoming All Star quality is a huge help. Agree, what's he even doing now? Warming Houston's bench? Agree.

Yeah, he went to the D-League, then to China, now sits on Houston's bench cheering on Howard every time he touches the ball.

rofl, there was a reason he was undrafted. Nowhere near good enough a passer to be a successful point.
I've been impressed by Greg Oden in his games for us this year. He's a massive physical feature in our defence to go along side the likes of Bosh when he's at the 4 who, besides being long, doesn't offer much physicality. His scoring has been good this year though, carried us through a few games last month. Obviously LeBron will be the East's main contender for MVP. I've seen him get criticised a lot for being a ballhog but in games where the Heat are controlling, it's usually because of him. His eye for a pass is ridiculous sometimes. Love Mario Chalmers too, so underrated and really helpful for us while D-Wade was injured.

Linsanity was a classic case of the scouting report not being foolproof. Nobody had a scouter report on Lin(partly because of the lockout so coaches didn't have a good read on certain players) which allowed him to sift through unrecognized and then blow up. To his credit, he did make the most of it, I remember he hit about two or three game-winners during his time in the spotlight and he did kinda lead the Knicks to that seven-game winning streak. So basically it seems all kinda hollow now, but it wasn't as bullshit as it seemed
As for Kobe, it would also look like a reach if he'd only decide to play if the Lakers had a remote shot at a championship. Besides he'll be one of the few players in history to play for only one team and.. really, I hope they just fire D'Antoni, he was never gonna take the Lakers anywhere far, with or without Kobe.

Kevin Durant is a joy to watch and a legend in the making. I'll come back with a more detailed post from my PC later.
I had been missing this thread by the way.

Nice little bit of overtime goodness in Indianapolis here.
Second worst team in the East beating the best team in the West as well. OKC have been really poor for me lately, their games are either low scoring or they only rally back in the 4th quarter, which convinces me that they're not ready for a Championship yet. If they get to the finals it's just gonna be 2012 again.

Mind you they're still without Westbrook, so they have to rely on KD that much more. Which on the other hand, is the main reason why he's making a solid running for MVP, if Russ were still active it'd probably be LeBron far in the MVP race lead again. Credit to Reggie Jackson who's filling Russ' absence the best he can.
That buzzer beater was crazy though.

27% from the field, that's just embarrassing. To finish that game with 78 points they've done alright tbh.

I dunno, Lin has been alright for the Rockets recently, although he does give the ball away too often. I went nuts when he hit that game-winning three against Toronto though, and his performance against the lakers at MSG when he put up near 40 was crazy. I'd take him over fucking Raymond Felton.

Poor Danny Granger man. Traded from Indiana to Philadelphia. Last season and a half has been difficult for him with his knee issues and hopefully he'll get his pre-injury form back with the 76ers but that must be tough knowing he won't be going to the playoffs now.
