Was winter even over? I’m finding a lot of the complaints on Twitter are more books based than what’s been in the show, a load of the tweets with lots of likes are just people showing how much of the lore they know about without it being that relevant to the show. I know season 8 gets all the hate right now but it’s been steadily declining since about season 5 or 6, I really don’t think any episode in this season on its own was that bad. Cersei getting killed by rocks is unforgivable though, that’s completely basic storytelling, an absolutely shitty payoff for the most hated character in the series. I dunno, I've never read the books and I'm pretty disappointed with it all. I get what you mean in terms of S8 getting bashed so much, it has been a pretty steady decline with a few flashes of brilliance to give you a bit of hope going forward. S8 wasn't exclusively terrible, and had some really great moments in it. I think the biggest change from earlier seasons is the idea that consequences aren't really a thing in the end. I know Dany suffers but Jon and Tyrion walk away from it all without a scratch and considering everything they did throughout the series it's pretty nuts, Tyrion especially. All the mistakes he made, all the "treason", and he ends up in his favourite job anyway. Read a good article that pinpointed Sam stealing his fathers' sword as the turning point in the show in terms of consequences. The fact he faced zero repercussions from that, when we'd been told before how his father said he wasn't worthy and all that jazz, and his father seemed like a right prick too, did he just accept that his son stole the sword? In the world of GoT, that seems crazy. Anyway, rambling a bit but early on, decisions would have unexpected consequences for everyone, not just the "baddies". Whereas in the end, pretty much all our favourites are fine and get exactly what they wanted regardless of what they've done in the past couple seasons. Just look at Sansa - telling Jon's secret resulted in absolutely everything she wanted from it.

just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at you doesn't give you basis for government! Strange bird-people sitting in chairs warging into ravens is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power comes from a mandate from the masses not from some farcical tree powers. If I wheeled myself around claiming I was king, just because some drunk dwarf made a weird speech about stories, they'd put me away!

How high are everyone’s hopes for Bloodmoon? Apparently it’s getting similar funding to the final few seasons of GoT but I don’t even know if it’s a multiseason deal or just a single miniseries kind of deal.
I think it’s gonna be good based on the premise but it’s gonna ruffle a lot of feathers if it turns out story from GoT was sacrificed for the prequels.

very low hopes in all honesty. I find myself kinda jaded with it, I dunno how much interest I really have in the Night King and the Long Night.
I guess D&D aren't involved so maybe we'll get more of early season Thrones but meh

Listening to the season 8 score and the track ‘Dead Before the Dawn’ which is a retooled version of Melisandre’s theme is one of my favourite pieces of film scoring ever. I always liked her theme for how sinister and moody it is, and for that to get turned upside down and become so light and sombre it’s just incredible.
Ramin did an unbelievable job for this show. I actually think without the music the series isn’t as good as it was.

His score for WestWorld is arguably even more beautiful. The bit in Season 2 where they enter the Japanese town is fucking incredible.

Yeah I love his work on Westworld as well. The Night King’s song actually sounds like something from Westworld.

I watched season 8 again the other day and while I still don’t like the plot, it’s still hard to deny it as an amazing season of TV in terms of acting, visual effects, sound design and cinematography (maybe e3 excluded but even with the lighting, there’s some stunning images in there).
And again as I said almost a year ago there, the score for the entire show was unbelievable but as I was watching the finale I noticed the crescendo in one song as Daenerys touched the throne that I’d never noticed before and it was fucking incredible. I actually don’t know at this point if I’d want Djawadi or Zimmer to compose the score of my life.

How did you manage to watch it again? It’s so bad. For me however good those other bits are, if the plot is shite, the whole thing is shite.

Ive always been a season 8 apologist tbh. I think it’s only so bad in the context of the first 7 seasons. As a TV show it was still better than most, and I still think most of the key events were logical conclusions to different arcs, but the shortening of the season meant we didn’t get to actually see the logic to it. They also copped out by not making the long night as deadly as it should’ve been. Doing that all seemed to be to shoehorn in Daenerys burning King’s Landing.
I’m still gutted that the plot was skewered in the season, especially when some episodes showed good glimpses of what the writing could’ve been.
