Yeah pretty much. Mostly because they're not actually doing much and are pretty seperated from the war etc so haven't been weakened or anything. They've also got Cersei's daughter if you remember with the family in Dorne (Myceralla who Tyrion sent away, it went to them) so they can pretty much do what they want because they've got a Lannister/Baratheon kinda hostage with them.

The Martells are my fave family in the books, so I automatically like Oberyn and Nymeria, no idea why they added the random thing with him chatting up that lad though, but hey. They're one of those families that takes ages to do anything and doesn't forget the past easily, hence Oberyn's whole hatred of Gregor for Elia Martell's death.

Yep, Elia Martell and her kids (Rhaenys and Aegon?) were killed during the siege of King's Landing by Lannister forces, namely Gregor Clegane and Amory Lorch (who died I think), who completely butchered these two children in front of their mother and then raped her, more than likely on the orders of Tywin Lannister, for a myriad of reasons, chief among them to prove his loyalty to Robert Baratheon after the Lannisters had neglected calls from both sides to join the fighting during Robert's Rebellion. edit: yeah fu Kesh I know my stuff too

Could argue the first bit of that isn't strictly true?

I would say it's best to have the thread following the TV series and then book stuff spoilered. Although not fussed as I've read them myself.

Just spoiler most things imo, especially what you're referring to haha I look slightly hypocritical there but all that's pre-first book anyway so I thought it'd be fine

I think there's enough ambiguity to get away with that, but will do in future of course. This thread's mainly focused on the TV series then? Can't wait for the next few episodes anyway.

Nah you're right there is enough ambiguity, I meant spoiler it if you were going to elaborate

The Martells are shit, Dorne is the most insignificant of the Seven Kingdoms. The reason Oberyn openly flaunts his disdain for the Lannisters is because he's a bad motherfucker.

nah Martells are class, I enjoy their story in the books, far more than I enjoy tons of the Arya or Sansa stuff. they're massively significant as well, plus they're like a different race almost to the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, they're great

How anyone can dislike Oberyn or to a lesser extent Arianne is beyond me, they're awesome. Dorne's not insignificant at all, it's just so far away and so isolated they rarely get involved as much.
