I really wouldn't go that far. Blackwater and Battle of the Bastards were both better battles, and better paced as well. It was good but a bit too visceral, almost?
Red Wedding was still the best episode GoT has put out, though.

Nah that was flawless. I’ve haven’t been on edge for 90 minutes like that since 2pm Sunday afternoon.

That was ridiculously good. Hardhome is by an absolute mile the best battle though

Im not a fan of the action episodes tbh so it was kind of a chore to watch. So much dumb shit going on then the Night King goes all James Bond-baddie and plays with his food. Not sure what the point of Bran was in it all particularly when he went 'under'.
Glad that's out the way though and we can get into the more interesting ending with these guys and Cersi.

It’s always been best as a political drama like in the first 4 seasons before it exploded into the biggest TV show ever, and it became more about the big moments that make Twitter go crazy. Plus the whole point of the series is the pointlessness of war and how it can never be a final solution, so even if it’s a bit weird having the main antagonists since the very first scene of the show defeated with 4 and a half hours still to go, it makes perfect context within the series.
Much preferred Arya this week as well, even if that moment doesn’t exactly stand up to scrutiny if you really want to do that, I still thought it was a great moment and the perfect choice. She better not kill Cersei as well now though.

I thought the Night King was meant to be THE main antagonist. I was really looking forward to finding out why the fuck he was marching down south and I thought it would go beyond just being evil and doing it for shits and giggles.
Also, fucking dragon fire couldn’t kill him but a shitty little dagger could???
I thought it was a great standalone action episode but as something to tie the whole series together it’s massively frustrating.
Hopefully the remaining episode circle back and explain things somehow rather than just focus on the battle with Cersei.

Mixed feelings, couldn’t fucking see anything for a kick off Loool glad it wasn't just me I was adjusting the settings on my tv wondering why I couldn't see shit at times. That was fucking great though. Last 15 minutes with that music throughout was beautiful. Genuinely didn't know what was going to happen next the whole time and the ending was a fantastic moment.

I expected the night king to be dead by episode 4, though the way it was gonna manifest itself was that he was going to kill Bran, in turn killing himself to confirm the Bran as the night king theory. I thought what Melisandre said to Arya would mean she was going to die taking down a load of wights but I’m glad it was her who finished the night king off.
I think the dragonfire not working was gonna be obvious as well. We saw when he killed the last three eyed raven that he can control fire. The way I envisioned it was that someone was going to have to be closer enough to pull the dragon glass from his chest, killing him. But Arya hit him in exactly the spot she had to, anywhere else and I think he survives.
We’ve got another huge battle to come and I’m more nervous about that than I was for this now.
Btw if anyone has an HDR TV I recommend using it for episodes like that. First time I watched it I had it turned off, turned it on for the second time and I could see what was going on.

With a bit of distance and hindsight, I'm even less sold on it. The ending was quite anticlimactic and the only real surprise is that it was Arya (and also that she can apparently give Greg Rutherford a run for his money in the long jump)
However, it does give us back the political conflict which the show does so well so that's a positive.

What a fucking character Theon Greyjoy is by the way. One of the best ever I would say. Perfect deaths for him and Jorah.
Also i’m fine with big characters not dying if their stories aren’t finished but pls stop with so many of the facing-certain-death-but-saved-at-the-last-moment hollywood bollox

I’d be quite surprised and a bit disappointed if we do get another large scale battle. Their army has been obliterated, it’s going to be basically Drogon vs The Golden Company, the North very sensibly wants no part of this. Haven’t looked at anything to do with the later episodes so if this is already confirmed already fair enough.
And yeah I had a tear for Theon, getting to die at home having repaid his debt to the Starks. The moment between Sansa and Tyrion in the crypts was amazing as well.

Watching it again later on a better TV and with the sound turned way up (didn’t want to wake my flatmate last night).
Initial reaction was that it was great, an absolute feat of cinematic TV, especially the musical overlay at the end with all the carnage (it made me think of MGS). A few minor gripes if I was being super picky/pedantic (overdoing the level of danger they put main characters in with no feasible way of surviving but they ‘just did’, for example) but however they handled most of those things wouldn’t have been perfect for everyone.
Actually surprised there weren’t more big deaths. I was definitely more surprised at who survived than who didn’t (Grey Worm, Tormund).
I hope we get some explanation about what the fuck Bran was doing when he was warging, and more clarity on what the Night King’s plan was beyond just ‘kill all humans’. He’s been shown to be more strategic and tactical than an unhalting, unthinking killing machine (making a deal with Craster, the plan to get himself a dragon) so it’ll be disappointing if there isn’t a bit more to his motivation than just ‘lol forever winter, let’s make snow angels’. I feel like finding out what Bran was doing will probably answer those questions too.
Looking forward to Ep.4&6 more than 5 as I think they’ll be the dramatic, political, answering-questions episodes rather than the final battle (which I’m assuming is Ep.5).
Still no real idea of who finishes on the throne, go back and forth on theories for so many different characters. I don’t think it’ll be Dany but beyond that... and that’s only because she’s been the one building towards being queen since season 1 but maybe it’s a double bluff and she’ll end up there anyway. Or end up on the throne but get killed before Ep.6 is done.
