Watching Lovren defend is funnier than any of Shakespeare's comedies.

Matip, Lovren, Klavan (currently our best CB on form) and Van Dijk are all better than Lewis Dunk who, I will repeat, has scored 2 in 2 for Liverpool. Klavan and Lovren lmao, you've clearly never really watched him so what's the point Laugh your arse off all you want, they’re all better than him.

It's probably a greater tragedy too.

Dunk and Duffy are both decent defenders who make a unit far greater than the sum of its parts, they're probably well coached and are finely tuned within that system, split them up and its a gamble

Liverpool fans take a proper 'yeah they're shite, but they're our shite' attitude over their shite centre backs

Nah we take a proper “they’re shite, but Lewis Dunk is an average at best defender who is playing his first season in the top flight at the age of 26 who are we calling good next Wes Morgan let’s not chat utter shit now Bollo” attitude towards them.
I don’t actually think any of them are shite. 5th best defensive record in the league. 25 conceded and 9 of them came in two games. Lovren is a good defender until he loses his head, would be brilliant in most systems in the league. Matip isn’t a great defender but he suits us down to the ground because he can play a pass through multiple players. Klavan is underrated on the ball and hasn’t put a foot wrong since he was put back in the team. Van Dijk hasn’t played for us yet but he should suit us as well as Matip but being a better defender. Our main issue this season has been midfield and a complete lack of cover provided by any of Henderson, Wijnaldum, Can or whoever goes in there.
Its great and easy to call our defenders shit but we’ve got the best home defensive record in the league and we’ve got as many clean sheets as Spurs, who are considered a defensively solid team, at least more so than us. It’s just the incessant and overreactive commentary and pundits who spend every waking moment talking about our defence and not actually admitting that we’re a much better defensive team than anyone can be arsed giving us credit for. When Klopp came out the other week and said we’re a defensive team he was laughed at but how many of our goals do we score on the counter. Our best offensive weapon in a lot of games is our defence.
But carry on telling me, 31 games into a season where I’ve watched every game we’ve played, how Lewis fuckin Dunk would be our second best centre half.

It's great how you can now just fit in system whenever talking about a player who is shite to just excuse them being shite

You’re only defensively better than us because you’re got better defenders, if that’s what we’re going with.

Garth’s gone a bit rogue this week, giving no justification or anecdotes for his selections and instead giving an op-ed on VAR.
VAR as has been used in this country so far has been atrocious tbf but I do believe in the system.

VAR is a joke under its a current format. Need to go like Cricket and Tennis where each side gets a set amount of reviews per game or half. Once they’re gone, tough shit.

It’s fine when the referees aren’t mongs with it. Which ours are, going to review for every little decision. Put faith in your own decision making and use it as a guide for extreme cases. Too scared to make a mistake they’ll be criticised for that they end up getting criticised more for referring to VAR every 5 minutes.
A set amount of reviews would work, but it just needs referees to not rely on it and stick referee it like any normal game, just except for really difficult decisions.

I dont think its them referring it, I think every decision is looked at regardless.
My biggest problem with it is, there’s no guarantee the correct decision is made because ultimately its still down to some other person watching a computer screen. Unlike goalline technology, theres still the potential of it being wrong because its still someones opinion, more informed than the referee, but still an opinion all the same.

It needs to revert to a NFL style system, there's absolutely no good reason why the on field referee needs to view the incidents if they're serious about 'clear and obvious errors'. They make all these referees retire at 48, now put 3 of them in a room during the games with every angle and get them to help the referee. Plus it's a pet peeve of mine anyway but the clock situation in football is completely fucked and they need to sort it. Ridiculous as well that the referee is responsible for that really.
Also lmao if football actually tries to go down the argument of 'we should respect referees decisions'. Let this contempt of referees grow for 20 years so that VAR is absolutely necessary to help referees do what's became an impossible job and now suddenly calling for referees decisions to be respected because it fits your agenda? Gtfo
