Froch has said that it's pretty much nailed on that his next fight will be against Chavez Jr. in Vegas, which has caused a huge amount of whinging from twitter because most people want the Groves rematch. I'd be quite interested in seeing him fight Chavez tbh, the guy can be a handful and is more than willing to trade so would definitely be entertaining. Plus the rematch will always still be an option after the Chavez fight, Groves will still be as desperate then as he is now, see no reason why Froch can't fight Chavez first and then take on Groves again afterwards. Thought that was pretty much what he said? Sounded like he said Chavez was happening first as it's practically agreed, and then he'll have the Groves rematch. He listed Groves as 2nd in his importance, to Chavez, so logic would dictate that anyways lol.

Yeah it makes the most sense but a lot of people seem to think he's ducking Groves and that he won't fight him after Chavez. I personally think he will fight Groves, but it makes sense to fight Chavez first. As I said, Groves will be waiting no matter what the outcome of the Chavez fight, but if Froch took on Groves first and lost he may not be able to get himself a lucrative fight in Vegas without belts to put on the line.

I don't think he'll fight Groves afterwards tbh. Win or lose vs Chavez, I fancy he'll go out in Las Vegas and feel as if he's scoring a victory in not letting Groves get his rematch.

Froch has never been a fighter to shy away from a challenge so I wouldn't be surprised to see him take it tbh, there's not many other big money fights out there for him after Chavez unless he fancies losing to Ward again or getting destroyed by GGG.

Aye that's true but I don't think he ever wanted the Groves fight (not that he was worried, just that he wanted bigger names) but wouldn't vacate. I think ending his career win or lose against Chavez in Las Vegas would be how he wanted to go out. I know it was in the heat of the moment but a lot of the stuff immediately after the fight suggested Groves had his chance, Froch had nothing left to prove and realistically I don't think he'll care about any fight other than Ward after Chavez. Maybe Kessler.
Eddie Hearn reckons the Ward fight isn't big enough financially (which I think is his way of saying he doesn't fancy Froch showing himself up again and losing his belts/bargaining chips), Chavez would be easiest option but difficult to negotiate, and Golovkin's people don't fancy Froch at 168 which tbh is probably just smoke and mirrors to push up Groves rematch.

I agree that he probably wanted a bigger name than Groves and I think what ultimately pulled him towards the fight was that it was inevitably very popular domestically and so was a guaranteed pay day. I see what you mean about essentially going out on a high in Vegas but at the same time I get the impression that Froch is the kind of guy that will really care about his legacy when he retires and wants the adulation of his fans, he seemed really bothered about the reaction of the crowd after the Groves fight and his pride may push him to want to silence any critics rather than being accused of retiring to duck a fighter.
The Chavez fight sets up a rematch quite nicely too, makes people wait that little bit longer, gives Groves more time to run his mouth and stoke the fire to generate more and more interest making it a more lucrative fight. The result/controversy of the first fight got quite a bit of attention in America and if Froch performs well against Chavez it could create more interest in the rematch from American fans too. I think a combination of financial reward and pride will drive Froch towards the fight, no doubt that Eddie Hearn will be doing his best to make it happen too.

There's been a couple of updates today.
Statement from Froch a few hours ago
However Eddie Hearn has just announced this on Twitter:
If Froch still decides he still wants to fight Chavez first he'd be able to put his WBA belt on the line so this may not have a huge effect, but he would obviously have to vacate his IBF title which he would no doubt get a lot of criticism for. Interesting to see what happens from here.

I know there's a few people not too fond of Froch on here and there's a few tidbits in here that will cement that view further.

Anyone watching the Fury fight? Starting now on BoxNation.
Fury looks a tad out of shape again, he's brought back the layer of flab hanging over his shorts. If this fight makes it to the latter rounds it'''d be interesting how he'll look fitness wise. Can see him winning early anyway so won't matter tbh.
Edit: Fury is so, so easy to hit. Haye would have had a field day against him with his speed and power.
Over in the 4th, easy win against an over matched opponent. BoxNation trying too hard to make the fight sound interesting and relevant, nothing exciting about a mismatch.

Jesus. Slighty understandable given time out of the ring and two wasted training camps but there's a reason those at the very top for a sustained period keep themselves in peak physical condition permanently. Reckon Fury will be lucky to ever get a shot at the Klitchsko's tbh, he'll end up paired against Wilder who'll knock his head off, who'll then go on to get clinically torn apart by Klitchsko. Genuinely more gutted we didn't get Haye Fury than I am at Pacquaio Mayweather (now that is, obvs in their prime it'd have been THE fight)

A fight between Wilder and Fury would be very interesting. I'm still not sold on Wilder because he's faced a barrage of nobodies but his speed would ensure that he catches Fury and his power would ensure that Fury would be rocked by it. We're yet to see how Wilder copes when he's being attacked by someone with no fear(/sense?) though which makes it interesting.
As for Pac/May it's got to the stage where even if it happened it would be somewhat disappointing as it would still leave questions to be asked. Pacquiao has still been fighting well but isn't in the terrifying peak that he once was which made this fight split opinions so much. 2010 was the prime time for the fight, if it does happen in the future it'll be at least 5 years too late.

Mayweather vs Maidana is set for May 3rd, even though the poll on Mayweather's site resulted in favour of Khan.
Both are massive underdogs so wasn't overly fussed which of them got the flight but at least Maidana has somewhat earned it after his impressive defeat of Broner.

Triple post cos I'm well ard.
Anyone watching the boxing tonight?
Ricky Burns vs Terence Crawford as the main event and fairly soon Anthony Joshua will be fighting.
For people who hate sleep there's a chance to witness boxing history in the early hours. Vasyl Lomachenko is challening for a world title in only his second pro fight, against Salido. If he wins it'll be the shortest number of fights that anyone has won a world title in. I reckon he'll do it as well, he was a phenomenal amateur (390-1 record or something ridiculous like that) and people like Rigondeaux have proven that a world class amateur can make the step up quickly if they're good enough.

396-1 was his amateur record. Ridiculous.
Quite enjoying this fight between Cardle and Appleby now.
