Yeah I'm just not having that tbh, even ignoring the many, many reasons to dislike him away from his music, I'm of the opinion his music is grossly overrated for what it is and he doesn't deserve to be help up alongside most others at the top of the game.

And he still hasn't made a good song since 2005 without riding on the coattail of Jay-Z.

Before he was known as a rapper he already had a huge part to play in Jay-Z's blueprint album which is one of his best.

Kanye West fans are worse than directioners.

Anyone with any kind of musical taste knows he is. Probably about on par with LL Cool J surely you wont fall for this?

I feel like an old man saying this but I just don't see how the likes of Kanye West can stand up as a 'musical genius' comparing to some of the geniuses of past generations. But I would admit that I'm not the best judge since I have a general disdain for quite a lot of modern music.

I'm not even a huge Kanye fan, I love his music but its not something I listen to on a regular basis, there are a lot of other artists that I listen to everyday before I'd get to Kanye.
But its hard to deny that he pushed the boundaries of hip hop in the mainstream.

But its hard to deny that he pushed the boundaries of hip hop in the mainstream. That latter point, it's weird how that's used to champion him, yet in other genres (take dance music for example) the likes of Tiesto, SHM and Avicii get torn to pieces by hardcore fans for 'selling out' and going mainstream.

Plus he produced a 40 minute short film to go with it which was well received also. I think he's a musical genius because I listen almost exclusively to hip hop, and in my eyes he has mastered the genre, he can sway between so many variations of it and be as successful from one to the other. For me, that's genius because he does it so well. Kendrick Lamar, probably one of the most lauded rappers alive, can't do that as well as him. The closest alive is probably J. Cole, and he doesn't have half the portfolio Kanye has.

Eh? Kanye didn't sell out and go mainstream though, that's when you change your music to a more mainstream sound in order to be more successful.
Kanye has never done what anyone else is doing in the mainstream.

I didn't like 808 but he pushed boundaries with that album which took huge balls to do, that's almost the opposite of selling out.
