Crossfit's alright. Try some of their WOD (workout of the days) and you won't be laughing at it because they're very tough but I wouldn't fancy doing it as my main form of training.
They also have you doing stuff like 25 deadlifts in as fast a time as possible which is just an injury waiting to happen really.

Hahaha. No problem with it really some people just mentally can't put themselves through two heavy/gruelling moves.

Used to do Crossfit, I never used barbells or Weight related before it as I usually just did Cardio at the gym, so it took me spend ages getting the form and technique right, I wasn't there too long to make any real gainzzzz because it was steep, something like 55 unlimited and this was pre-student loan so I sacked it. The coaches knew what they were talking about and the people there seemed in good nick. The WODs are pretty gruelling but, was sore for days after.

Crossfit always just came across as more of a competition based workout. I know people who do it that post about it on FB, and it just constantly seems to be one bragging about out doing the other. It's a put off tbh, exercise isn't really about lets see who can do the most shit in the least time. Still not a decent gym in the small village I live in, and since I don't drive I'm spending my time doing free weight stuff, with a few dumbbell exercises added in so I don't get bored. Also into some of that yoga lark, it's not bad y'know.

I have stupidly agreed to go to the gym to support my missus who's wanting to lose weight before our wedding. I have a membership sorted (we pay £26 a month for l of us for gym, pool, astroturf etc) and they tell me I need an induction. I've never been to a place that's had anything more than medicine balls and punch bags. What the fuck am I to expect
Ps. Never thought I'd ever ever ever post in this thread.

I've never had an induction but I imagine they'll just be showing you how to use the machines and telling you where everything is whilst you awkwardly stand there and go "oh yeah, yeah".

Nothing much really, they just show you how to use the equipment properly (in my experience, at least). Unless you've got some kind of programme set-up included in the induction?

Inductions are so boring. A complete wrecking ball of a man came to the gym I work in and I had to given him an induction ffs. 'Set it at a weight you feel comfortable with' dude could have lifted the whole stack with me on top was retarded.
Basically they show you around the machines how to use them safely and adjust them and they might take you through a short workout depending on your goals etc

My goal is to not achieve an awful lot bar improving my general fitness. I don't want to lose weight and I don't want to bulk up.

I need to be on this tbmfh.
In all seriousness though it's not good if you're knee stiffens and swells up for a couple of days every time you do squats, is it?
