Anyone been to Slovenia? About to book a summer break to the alps there assuming planes are even still allowed to fly after no deal.

Ryanair have cheap flights again so I might be in Dublin for 24 hours in a few weeks time.
What should I definitely make sure I don't miss?

Really depends where you'll be staying in terms of transport. Also what you're interested in. Personally think Kilmainham Gaol is a must, if you've any interest in history at all: kilmainhamgaolmuseum.ie/ The tour bus brings you to all the highlights I suppose and will drop you off outside the Gaol as well. You can get there by public transport handily enough too, and it's about a 45 minute walk from Temple Bar as a point of reference. Just avoid Temple Bar though. It's a nice cobbled street area to walk about but it's so overpriced it's sickening. Dublin will be expensive enough for you without spending any money there

daveyposhboy I wouldn't stay in Isaacs or anywhere on Gardiner Street. There's a lot of options there but it's just a bit out of the way of most of the bigger tourist attractions and not the nicest area at night in my experience. For the things you've listed there I'd check out Kinlay House hostel as a base, I've stayed there a couple times before and it's right beside Christ Church. You're walking distance to the Guinness factory as well and Kilmainham is about a half hour walk from Kinlay House. I'd recommend getting Kilmainham in first thing in the morning and popping into the Guinness factory on the walk back if it suits. You're probably pushing it though if Saturday is your only full day and you're already doing a Bloomsday tour. I've never been to the National Gallery but I love the National Museums, they're free to enter. The one at Collins Barracks is for Decorative Arts & History and then there is one on Kildare Street for Archaeology. Would recommend both but if stuck for time go to Collins Barracks. I dunno how set you are on the Guinness factory... it's a good experience and all and the pint and view from the top is great but there are a few other good things around and I'd put it below Kilmainham on a "must see" type job. What time do you leave on the Sunday? How long is the Bloomsday tour? Trinity College library has the Book of Kells as well which is worth a visit. Glasnevin Cemetery is meant to have an incredible tour but I've never made it out there, and the Gravediggers is famous for it's Guinness. For pubs: - The Long Hall (South Great Georges Street) - Arthur's Pub (near the Storehouse) - Cassidy's (Camden Street) - Grogan's (William Street - nice area for people watching) ^ All recommended on having excellent pints of Guinness. I'm sure an actual Dub will have better/off the beaten track recommendations luisgarciaisgod daveyposhboy The Luas (tram) doesn't go to the airport - you'll have fun with the excellent transport system! Glasnevin and the Botanic Gardens would be a decent Sunday morning activity, and then you'd need to get a bus/taxi to the airport from there. Bus wise I think you'd have to walk to Drumcondra to get either a 41 or 16 out to the airport. Might actually be easier for you to come back into city centre proper and going from there weirdly enough. Pub opening times on a Sunday should be fine, probably 12pm and if there's a GAA match on the Sunday there'll be a great buzz around Drumcondra (that's where Croke Park is). They might open before 12 in some of the more touristy areas for breakfast but not allowed to serve alcohol til 12 (I think). The Botanic Gardens/parks usually open around 10am as far as I know, might even be earlier come summer time. I'd definitely recommend getting to Kilmainham anyway and then getting the Luas back towards the city centre, maybe hop off it around Smithfield and wander back towards Trinity from there (about a 25 minute walk), cross over at the Ha'penny Bridge and through Temple Bar. Temple Bar will be rammed but it's extortionate prices and full of tourists. But worth wandering around the cobbled streets are nice. Bunsen has an excellent burger. Then if you're like me and grand with wandering I'd go from Trinity up Grafton Street, there's a few pubs in the side streets like Davy Byrnes, The Duke, Bruxelles and Kehoes. Top of Grafton Street is Stephen's Green which is a nice wee park. Running parallel to Grafton Street is South William Street which is where Grogan's is. I'd take a wander all the way up to the Bernard Shaw and Eatyard which is right beside it (just an outside yard with food trucks) but that's a fair ol' trek. All depending how you're feeling/what you fancy. Kinlay House is handy where the airport bus drops you right outside it I think. Avalon House is a bit more awkward to get to as you'll have to walk a bit from wherever the bus drops you, but I prefer that street for food/pub options. There's a million things that you could stumble upon that will be better than my recommendations as well tbf. I haven't lived in Dublin for years so tend to stick to what I know these days. If I end up down that weekend I will offer to meet for SNC Dublin (Y) Couple of ideas there @djed

Lad I'm learning Spanish with went last year. Loved it, said they were fond of BBQ's.
Not sure if they're still anti-British or not since Kirchner went quiet.

Thinking of going for two weeks over Christmas and new year. Still in the early planning stages, but the dates fall well for her time off work and with their seasons being opposite to ours, we don’t really wanna go during our summer.
Could see myself on steaks, red wine and quilmes for two weeks though.
